Boys, I was taking a stab in the dark. I have no idea what his FTP really is - and really, I doubt anyone on this forum can attest to seeing/owning an authentic Lance Armstrong power file.

The point of my estimation was to show that Lance riding around at "endurance" pace is still significant training and there isn't a need for 2X20's in his regimen.

Riding around for 16-18h/wk at +350W is serious business. 2X20's is Mickey Mouse compared to what the pros do.

So are you saying time at absolute power is a better measure of training load than time at (personal) relative power?

Absolutely not.

I used 350W as an arbitrary value [from my earlier estimation].
85% @ FTP or 350W = same banana to Lance [if his FTP is 400W].

OT; you checking your PM these days?

Hey man,

I'm no Lance Fan-boy, but he was the most tested athlete in the world and never failed a test. Without proof, it's just so much conjecture.

Besides, autologous blood doping is so much more the rage these days.

is that a joke, or do you really not know that the whole most tested athlete thing wasn't true?

Oh he was.

Still doesn't mean he was clean, though.

He wasn't even one of the most tested cyclists. He didn't have as many controls because he didn't compete as much. Look at how many races someone like Bettini does compared to LA. Doesn't make him a doper though.

Unless you're winning/top 3, or one of the very few random controls taken, it's unlikely you'll be tested at any given race. At least it was that way before the UCI's biological passport came about, and the targeted testing carried out by AFLD.

And, he was tested more often than most, out of competition.

Shrug. I don't have the time to dig up the links, but the whole 'most tested' thing has been debunked. As a rule if someone resorts to hyperbole to make their point it's usually bunk.

Yeah, "tested a lot," I'll believe. There was certainly adequate testing coverage.

Depends on how you look at things I guess.... Take Slipstream for example... I say they are tested so often as a way to keep their athletes from getting busted by WADA rather than making sure they are "clean riders".

Discuss.

Look, just because I'll be out looking for the Great Pumpkin this evening doesn't mean that Lance wasn't a heavily tested rider who never failed a test. No matter what Occam's Razor may tell you, until he's been proven guilty, you have to give him the benefit of the doubt.
