They were fine, I thought they ran a good event and I understand them not wanting guys out of state poaching jerseys.
I do wish USAC/UCI would get off the notion that guys over 50 shouldn't ride a kilo or longer pursuits. It's actually contrary to where your power profile starts to drop off as you age. A 500 vs. 1000 actually makes the start and raw power more important.

I am nuts.
Dropped out of Pawling after 20 miles. Physically I was perfectly fine. I was at the front on all the climbs, and didn't feel any drop in power or endurance. For a split second I was in pain, and asked myself why bother. Stopped pedaling hard and drifted off the back.
I think it's normal person life interfering with two-wheeled life. Need to narrow down my priorities before my mind is permanently drawn and quartered.

I dropped out of the RR at Coatesville while still in contention as well. I was just not in the mood to fight it out with an extremely aggressive group, especially after getting pulled in the crit the day before, much for the same reasons.
I was not in contention at Pawling however, pushing over 5w/kg for the first 5 minutes of the major climb was just enough to allow me to watch them ride away. From what I could tell, they never went that hard again throughout the race, but I was on my own for 1.5 laps and had no chance of catching back on.

I tend to handle stage races better than one days, because I kill the ITT and then work to maintain GC position through the following days. Gives me a long term, tangible goal to aim for. Yesterday I found myself asking what the payoff is. I already know I'm stronger than just about everyone, and it's not like I'm going to make enough money to even cover my entry fee + gas if I win. Pain < Swimming
I think simplifying my life will help me focus better.

I raced New Britain but my races were so stupid I don't even want to write about them.

Redmond Derby Days Crit Cat 3 - 50 mins, flat w/ 4 corners, 51 racers. Rode out and back from Seattle with two team mates, it was the perfect day for some riding and racing.
Lined up on the front, stayed near the front for a while, ignored a $100 prime, and at one point found my spokes making weird sounds while rubbing on someone's skewer.. yeah, that was a little scary!
The race felt easy for the most part, and my team had two guys taking turns with attacks, making people chase while three of us sat in for the sprint.
Coming into the first turn on the last lap two guys squeezed a third like a cat 3 sandwich, and the guy in the middle starting wobbling and almost went down.. I was right behind these guys and had to hit the brakes, losing spots which put me in 12th wheel or so, not where you want to be to win a sprint. At least not where I wanted to be..
Made up a few spots before turn 3, but out of that turn guys in front start swerving around and I had to slow again, damn.. Sprint was ok but it wasn't for first, ended up 7th - in the money but no points.. good times though.

I was in the 4's w/Hida. 40 minutes...quick pace...okay..blistering pace and large field of 81, it was just great racing under beautiful weather. Only issues were tapered corners, and the reflective turtles...
After getting a less than stellar line-up...My plan was to hang tight, be patient, and then get up front; test the field/legs and then drop back for the finish....all went to plan, minus the crash (again). I was moving up in the straight, prepping to move outside for the hole shot, and BAM, on the ground and the peloton gone. I'm fine, bike is fine, guy who went down in front of me got pretty tore up, but I hear that he is on the mend. Sucks that this happened 3 to the last lap...people's heads disappear at the end..
I got up, and chased...afterwards, I had to rush and coach my daughter in the Kids' Race.
The Vid...

i like this race a lot.. but didn't do it this year. 4 hour drive or something.
My best 5 minutes out of pawling last year was also 5.0 watts per KG and that was good to keep me in the pack for the first couple of laps in the 3s. Got dropped in the last climb.
did you at least get pint glasses again?

Terry Reisch Memorial Road Race - Cat 4
Crashed (again). Much harder than last weekend.
Was riding my back-up 20 year old steel frame bike and since I was still feeling a little beat up I was hanging around the back of the field for most of the race. Last third or so I did a little moving up on some of the punchier climbs (well, not really - it's just that people were dropping off behind me).
Long downhill into the last 300m or so, then a moderate uphill to the finish. We were told we'd have the whole road at 1k to go, but as the pack spread across the road coming down the hill (at 40 mph) a car was coming up the opposite lane. I was moving up fast on the right shoulder side - 10th wheel or so - then basically all guys on the other side of the centerline swerved to the right to avoid the car, the pack compressed sideways and a guy swept my front wheel out from under me.
Bam, slide, tumble tumble tumble. Ended up in the ditch about 10' off the side of the road. EMTs checked me out and reluctantly let me go. Some scrapes on my right leg, massive road rash on right arm (I now have more Tegaderm than skin on that arm), helmet shell dented and interior foam cracked in several places. I must've taken a hit to my back because I have some really, really sore ribs but on the bright side it only hurts when I breathe. Neck is very stiff and sore. More bruises than I care to count. It's going to take more than a week to recover from this one. And to add insult to injury, I also did just enough sliding on my left side to reopen a lot of the road rash from last weekend.

Piedmont Triad Omnium.
Cat 2/3 ITT - DFL... (had I done the 3/4 I'd have placed 5th, so not my worst effort)
Cat 2/3 Crit - Super fast race. Tried to help a teammate but was outgunned
Cat 3/4 RR - Annoying to say the least. I wasn't in the omnium. A couple guys went early, they got pulled back. Another 3 went, we sort of chased. I went off the front, they chased and pulled me and one of the dropped guys from the break back. Then they sat up because "those two weren't in the omnium". So after the feed (in which some guy decided at the last possible second he wanted the bottle right in front of me) I attacked hard, got a 90 second gap (so far they couldn't see me) and they chased... Pulled me back, then sat up and let the other guys get 2 minutes.
Then they all rode along holding hands and singing songs until the last 1k and "sprinted".
THis is why I race masters...

my legs responded to me in kind w/ the way I'd treated them the last week... no fuel = no fire.
I was doing fine, moving up in the last 10 laps for the day's plan - actually I was right on Forza's wheel when the crash went down with 3 to go. He was riding smart and strong all day - good job of moving around in the pack!
At the crash, I had to slow way, way down - but managed to pick my way through (the channel opened up right in front of me)
Chased back on like a beast, made it in 1 lap (was down 1/4 lap post-crash)... that was most of rocket-boot fuel that I had been saving.
Got back on w/ 1.5 to go, right before T4, coming up to the bell some guys waaay overcook the corner (which is incredibly hard to do), and 4 of them ram head-on into the metal barriers on the outside along the straightaway.
Chaos again, get to chase again - rocket fuel is now being burned just for the sake of a pack finish.
Get back in the pack as we round T4, pack finish....
it's a pity, for as much fuel as I had, it burned hot & fast - and in the last couple of laps - but on the wrong end of the pack.
It was the best job I've ever done of conserving legs and nursing a small poker hand into something playable at the end of the game...
This was probably about my last crit for the year - maybe one more, a few CRs, and some week-day CRs & I'll be done.

I participated in the NorCal Masters Track State Championships Saturday and Sunday. I won gold medals in team sprint and team pursuit. Both races were very close and we won by approximately 1 second in each event.
I led out the team sprint and had the start of my life. I knocked off 1 second off my starting half lap compared to my morning 500 meter time trial half lap time.
In team pursuit, we won with 3 men versus the other team had four.

forza, what was that guy doing taking his hands off of the bars and raising them in the air with a rider down right in front of him? You might not want to share a ride to a race with him.
heppm, bad luck comes in stretches it seems. Heal up quick. Opening old wounds is awful.
Congrats Hermes!!!!
