I'm thinking of getting back to playing Ultimate. I got started riding to train for Ultimate, and then just kinda stopped playing because I enjoyed riding. Now that I'm not enjoying riding as much anymore I think I might go back to Ultimate and just use riding for training for a while.
There's a pickup game at 2:30 today (every Sunday) about 10 minutes from me. I'm probably gonna go see how I am. I bet my disc handling is pretty poor, but I don't know how long it will take to come back.
I really love the game, I just don't know how well my knees will hold up.

Bed should be here soon.
It would have been way better if it had been here last night.
So it goes.

This whole global soccer mania thing is utterly unfathomable to me. But of course, I'm a Mets fan, so take it from where it comes. I tried to watch that USA/Ghana match yesterday. It was like watching the grass grow in July on Mt. Doom (it doesn't).

But seriously, baseball players spend more time standing around scratching their asses than playing the game.

I hear you. When I think of how much I can't watch soccer, I immediately think of all the sports fans around the world who could never watch baseball.

Went out early this morning to trim back the vines that grow all over our house...hit a hornets nest..much Bennie Hill like running around and screaming like a 6 year old girl ensued...got hit in the back of the neck and in the fore arm twice. MF they hurt...and itch too...couldn't take any Benadryl cause it makes me sleepy and I had to do my work out still. Just got back from that and now for some Benadryl.

7 days to what has to be the biggest race i've done in a while.
not terribly long: 77km.
probably the largest field i've raced with since the kermesse i did in belgium back in the dark ages: 160 starters.

Hanging out (ok, resting) at the top of my climb yesterday, I was soon joined by three 16/17 year old dudes on their mountain bikes. The first up finished with a wheelie cruise. His two friends followed by walking the final 1/2 mile paved road that wasn't more than 5%. For the life of me I couldn't understand that. All those gears and they had to walk? They were good boys though, and I had fun teasing them. I learned it was the first time any of them had ever done anything that challenging on their bikes, and following the teen playbook, they also ran out of water a long time ago. That's when I told them they passed a water spigot on their way up, a 1/2 mile down the road. (group forehead slap)
We were joined by a dude/babe combo on a Harley comfort cruiser. The comely babe took an interest in my bike, asking it's frame size, weight and so forth. Turned out she was a former tri-chick. She hadn't been on a bike in a year since moving here from Germany. I challenged her to get a road bike and start riding again. From the way she was eyeballing my bike, she wanted it real bad.

a rough translation, according to the website:
"there's 40 meters of climbing per lap. The quick succession (the two climbs are within 1.5 km from the finish and come back every 6.4 kilometers) offers opportunities to make a nice race!"

is there anything that isn't funny when played at 1.5x speed and accompanied by "Yakety Sax"?
I'm back from Ultimate. I'm more out of shape than I used to be, but I can still handle the disc pretty well. Very well considering I haven't played in over a year. If I can just figure out how to keep my toes from blistering almost instantly, I'll probably keep playing a lot. I love that game, just a beautiful game.
