Advice needed:
I have some close friends that I train with. They really don't know my situation, financially, maritally, etc. They're always asking me why I'm not doing certain things, like registering for expensive rides, races, buying new wheels (which I need - sort of), going here, doing this.
I was just hit up today about something.
Should I just tell them what's really going on or should I just say things aren't good right now and leave it at that? Sometimes I would rather them know and then they'll understand and give it a rest.

You should tell them what you're comfortable with saying.
How close is 'close'?

one i'm pretty close to.
i may tell him just because he's more understanding.
plus, he's the one that's always asking me to go to these rides, etc. with him.

Tell them what you are comfortable with. As for the expensive rides, I've done multiple charity rides/fundraising rides, those things are scarier then a cat5 race. You should stay away from them regardless of your financial situation.
Making a kilometer blurry
Whatever you do, don't make stuff up. Just meter the amount of info going out to what you're comfortable with. Even just a simple "I can't," or "I'm skipping it this year" will end it most of the time. If someone really cares, then they might push it further, and that might be someone you'd be more willing to open up to. I think you need to decide if getting it off your chest verbally would be helpful, but you don't want to just tell random people.

The crazy thing is that you're talking about your TX location. It was 75 when I rode home yesterday, and tonight it will be 17. It's going to be a fun ride in to work tomorrow -- I get to break out some of my forgotten gear...

We're expecting another 1.5-2 feet between today and tomorrow. Two storms moving in back to back, or so they say.
It's getting a little old.
The 'view' from the train looking out into the river was nice though. Couldn't see anything but white...

No way I can ride outside. It snowed overnight and I've got micro drifts piled up against the house. There are enough cell phone ear stuck soccer mom Escaladers and angry how did I get stuck with this wife kid job agro Hummer drivers here that going out on these roads is like playing Russian Roulette with a Glock and hoping to find an empty spot in the clip.
Dallas traffic map looks like a kid's coloring book who only had red or orange crayons.
I might go out this afternoon in the minivan to get a battery for my HR strap but otherwise I'm wandering over to the garage and even then I have to avoid a couple of Chesepeake rollovers.

Aw man. That means the FB entertainment will be diminished.
Is your wife around? If she's not, it's still going to be hilarious.

Were sorry, but the Northeast will be closed for the foreseeable future. For those experiencing the effect of SAD will be even sadder.
