I think Lance is holding back, playing possum, going to attack in a few stages when the big guns have shelled themselves.

I think it's more like he's thinking, "maybe this wasn't such a bright idea."
|
The Universal Sports live commentator leaves a lot to be desired. He can't keep track of who is where in the race. The delayed broadcast crew is much better.
Levi looked good as did Chris. |

Hopefully Astana will realize LL is their GC threat and make LA work for him. |

That should have been type in pink font to denote sarcasm. |
I like the commentator's on the Eurosport audio feed.
RAI Sport also, as said, has the better camera coverage. Another good day for Di Luca, Magila Rosa for him. Great picture from yesterday of Di Luca. http://www.steephill.tv/2009/giro-d-...618860-640.jpg |
I thought it was incredible that Lovkvist was right there with the big names all the way to the finish. Thought he would keep pink, sucks that he lost it to DiLuca by only 1 second.

Rodgers is a crystal ball. Menchov is a known quantity.
The taciturn roooskie has won the Vuelta twice. Beating the EPO laden flea sized Spanish and Basque climbers on their home soil is no small feat, and deserves acknowledgment. He was 4th in the Giro as a warm-up last year if you throw out Ricco, and was on the TDF podium if you throw out Kohl. He belongs in the conversation. Lance executed perfectly again today, as did Dammit Cannotgo Cunego. Lance could have easily won the stage if he hadn't had that mechanical problem that was causing him to veer around like a guy who was in trouble. I can't help but think he's just setting them up for a huge ride in one of the later stages. I also can't help but think this foil hat will protect me from the x rays the government is beaming into my house. |

Nope LA played it perfectly today...just like yesterday...he's conserving energy...two or three more stages he'll have them right where he wants them....him down 20min...they'll never expect the attack that will crush them all..

Props to Universal Sports for bringing us this coverage. :thumb: (I love the live audio that's still running well after the video coverage is done. I'm just waiting for the fans to start chanting "Gimondi! Gimondi!' like in the old films. :p ) |

Really? Don't think so, not after today's performance. And Di Luca clearly is out of the running. Sastre just gets weaker as the race goes on so I'd count him out too.

I think Lance's conditioning is fine. I just think he's getting old, and the broken collarbone didn't help matters much.
The Universal Sports commentator has the cheesiest Italian "accent" I have ever heard. If he tried that in a bar all the girls would just laugh at him. He's also missing lots of stuff, calling riders by the wrong name (DiLuca/Pattachi) wrong country (Rogers USA/AUS), and his wind up for yesterday's finish had the excitement of the recording in the Metro station telling me which train is approaching the platform. Universal Sports/Slipstream's premium feed has been having technical problems since they've started. Hope they get it worked out, because I paid for their advertised "broadcast quality" feed, which I have not seen yet. The free feed looks better because I can run it full screen, which I cannot on the premium feed. That having been said, I think its great that Universal Sports is making the investment to bring coverage of the Giro here, and fantastic that they are providing it online for those of us who don't get the channel, and I may become a big fan of this channel/website. The "Only Lance Network" was annoyingly one dimensional. Now they can focus on bass fishing and bull riding. |
Versus had the advantage of being broadcast in HD. Universal is pretty fuzzy on a big tv.

Lance is trying to get back into condition so he can make a reasonable showing at the Tour de France. He'll try to help Levi as much as he can in the process. I would hope his form could come around by July, but not this month. For a guy who's out of shape and riding on that level for the first time in four years, his performance is phenomenal in my view. And Chris Horner is riding friggin GREAT.
So far I'd say Lance is riding precisely the race he predicted he would 5 weeks after having SIX screws planted in his friggin collarbone. I never thought he'd crack top 10 in the GC. But I am hoping he'll make at least one selection on one monster climb later in the race. |

Basso looks great. But watch out for LL.
From Tour of Cali results in just the prologue LL put 16 sec. on Basso in a couple of km's. Assuming their fitness has increased at same rate the math on that is a big number. Rogers gave up 46 seconds to LL at 26?km TOC ITT. All things equal he's back 2.5 to 3 minutes in ITT's. Didn't Diluca crack late in race last year and bleed time? |
