The problem with that is the time it takes for recovery... This isn't the time of the year to do that stuff.

lol. I took the ol' legs for a spin today. Solo break for 3hrs, caught 15min before the finish line. Turns out I had a slow leak, so I stopped to change my rear wheel and was OTB. lolol. A ****in great workout though, I should be good to go as far as Fitchburg goes.

in seriousness, whaichever race you're targetting I hope you f'ing kill people. I'm glad I wont be there cause I'm scared (not of your pectorals, though) of what sounds like KP v 4.0.

I also know/love/hate that feeling of lags on fire, so excited to race feeling.... dang, I'm off my peak and I still wanna rip legs off!

Good luck, Eric.

60 miles in 3.5 hrs, a couple of good efforts in the aero position, but most of the time was spent on the bullhorns. 200 TSS for the day.

40mi hilly road race this morning. Legs felt really good. Continued to try and keep the cadence high (100+) on the climbs and it worked well for me. Another (more or less) pack finish, so a good sign (for me at least).

can i use a week of tapering as a rest week? it was a mini-peak for a race today, and i'm ready to go at it again.

75' ride with 22 85-90% standing attack efforts of about 10-25" in the 600-850 range on any "at least somewhat steepy" I encountered. There is something about these efforts that seems to feed the rest of my riding. When I feel strong with these kinds of efforts, I tend to be strong overall. I'm not sure about causal direction. It could be that when I am strong otherwise, I feel strong when standing and stomping. However, in my mind, I think that when I feel strong when standing and stomping, it feeds my strength elsewhere. Still not 100% healed yet. But, getting better each day.

2.5 hours. 45 miles. 190 avg. .82 IF. 164TSS.

I've come to realize I need at least one 3 hour ride a week.

me too. all the 5' intervals and 2 hr sst rides in the world don't do the same thing as a solid 3(4+) hour ride.

Still pissed about my powertap, though.

the 3.5 hours I did yesterday gave me 5 hours for the week, rest week is effectively over. Shazam, I'm going to the beach @ Cedar Key today to see it pristine one last time before the oil washes ashore.

Riding starts again tomorrow.

Ken,

PM me your training plan for the week. It is my Summer Break week so my schedule is flexible. I do have a lot of chores on my chore list and a 14 year old with two "Florida Virtual School" classes that he needs nearly constant supervision to remain "on task", but I might be able to sneak out for a ride or two.

And I think that my hours for the last week are less than yours, so either my legs are fresh or they are dead.

I'm taking a break for awhile. We're leaving on Tuesday for 2 weeks in Italy. I'll probably rent a bike for a few days but for the most part it's going to be mellow and touristy.

This has been a crappy year. Been off the bike now for 9 days due to some kind of stomach/bowel issue. Carrying a slight fever too so it sounds like some kind of virus or bacteria. Thought I was getting better mid week last week and was looking forward to getting back out there toward the end of the week and over the weekend. No dice. Another trip to the clinic. Waiting for stool sample results while I try to follow the BRAT diet. HOPING things solidify a bit today so I can at least get out and stretch my legs tomorrow and race on Wednesday. Also have a 42k TT planned for Sat. & a RR on Sunday. My fitness is crap. So those should be interesting.

On the good side I blew past my weight goal for the summer (165 lbs). 163.x lbs right now and I'm sure still going down as I'm not really eating all that much (though I'm working like a dog to stay hydrated). With any luck I'll be able to keep these losses and build strength back up at this weight once I'm firing on all cylinders again. So, from all this crap the last month or so I've found out my heart is healthy. I also saw my blood test yesterday. My hematocrit was 44. So normal there. I'm running out of excuses!

I feel like I just stagnated this year because of all of this, but I gotta think that with all the crap this year I am due to have a good, prolonged stretch of training without health issues coming up where I can make some good improvement to carry into next year. I'm not giving up on this year. Just looking ahead. Fingers crossed.

^^^^^That sucks. I hope you get over the health stuff in a hurry and can work back into a groove.

Today I did kilo intervals. Standing start in a 53x15, drilling it for a kilometer. My best one was 1:20 at 608W (road bike, drop bars, very low wind, slightly uphill). I feel ok about 1:20 for an interval. I'll have to do a real test on this course sometime to see if I can get to 1:10.

The extra 20-25 seconds, plus the standing start, really really hurts. I could only do three and my legs are torched right now.

I think I'll break up the workout a bit in the future and do some flying kilos, then do some standing start sprints on a different day. Then I'll recombine later.

Midday Zone 2 ride out of Gaineville taking the "Trail" to Hawthorne and then back roads to Interlachen and returning the same way.

I almost got to see two log trucks do a "head on" as one was just starting to pass me (still 50 to 80 ft back, but in the other lane) on a blind corner and another was coming the other way. I was giving quite furious "slow down" hand signals to the fully loaded log truck behind me and I guess that it worked because I'm here to tell the tale.

Hot as Hell and headwinds both ways (literally).

I need to take another shower. It is hot near the ceiling of a 10' high room and I have been doing a couple of hours of "cutting in" today. The part over the built-in bookcases and window seat are a real *****.

Tomorrow I "roll". So easy yet so satisfying.

Day off the bike. 1hr core/upper body work.

Plan for the week
Tue: Maybe 2.5hr w/ 3*10' intervals, maybe a day off, depends what the day's activities bring (sen10rs, we're crazzzzy haha).
Wed: 50mi group "Eddy Merckx" ride. Fast paceline work building up to a big intermediate sprint. Fun day.
Thu: Shooting for 3.5-4hrs. Either 3*10' intervals followed by a steady tempo or just a steady tempo all day.
Fri: Another long hilly ride hopefully, probably more like z2 though, depending on where my legs are. No school or work this week, so I want to get some big hours in.
