how about this as a question: are there any core exercises that will improve cycling, or do all the core muscles involved while cycling get adequately worked on the bike?

I'm a fan of Skippy Abs.

Actually, I'm NOT a fan of skippy abs. But they'll work you into the ground. And Skippy's a friend of mine.

do planks. they work the abdominals, lower back, and intercostals - all important for cycling in different ways.

My TSB hasn't been positive in 1.5 months. almost 2 days off now, and my legs are still tired. VO2 intervals are on the docket tonight. This is technically a rest week. Lower hours, but still intensity. On my ride into work this morning, I sprinted by a car, and it felt like I had good sprint in me.

I'm seriously considering doing the Michelob Ultra La Vuelta de Acadiana 2010. 3 stage omnium race July 3,4. If I do, my #1 priority will be to destroy the TT prologue - 6 miles, though I feel like I should be able to take the whole thing.

Taper has started for Fitchburg. This saddens me, as I can't ride as much as I'd like to

This year I haven't been doing any core work and it hasn't seemed to affect me negatively whatsoever.

If you'd like to do some core work, I'd suggest stability ball crunches (2X20-25), medicine ball v-ups (2X10-12), and leg raises (2X20)

+1 If you do them right they will WORK you and the risk of injury is much lower than most other abdominal/core exercises.

I was 1 point too short due to a crit that was 2 miles too short to count, and the powers that be wouldn't cut me a deal.

In the end it was probably right of them to do, as I've spent the past 2 years as a decidedly average rider.

Did you see this guy?

BTW, what is the meeting place/time for tomorrow's ride? Will it interfere with the end of the USA/Algeria WC?

Turlington Turd, 11AM depart. I'll probably get there @ 10:55-10:58.

I don't know what time the game is. Did you get the memo that apparently UF's internet feed is buckling under the load from so many people watching the games?

Match will be going whilst we ride. I'll record it on my youngest boy's computer and watch later.

kensuf could probably tell you stories about the UF network during the heyday of Napster.

Back on topic: Today was one of those rides where I hit the winds just right (calm wind going out and a 4 mph tailwind coming back). Zone 2 ride with speeds on that course that would normally be near my FTP. It is all an illusion.

See ya tomorrow, Ken. I'm strictly on a Zone 2 diet for a while. If you guys want to go harder, but steady, I will suck wheel. If you guys want to "speed play" I'll drop off and see ya next time.
