I think most canned "pumpkin" is actually squash. I mean, pumpkin is a kind of squash, but canned pumpkin is usually a different kind of squash.

I should come back here more often. Sorry for the late reply.

I do make a "green" posole with chicken and tomatillos, but I was making the normal posole with "white hominy" (hence the name posole) with pork shoulder and chili sauce.

Both are very tasty.

Ate a breakfast burrito the size of my head this morning, then proceeded to go into a food coma all day at work.

If you guys are ever in SF, be sure you stop by Caramba for this:

And to think, 8 months ago Taco Bell was the epitome of Mexican food for me.

Living in Ca and going to taco bell for Mexican food is a crime. Your next step should be the carne asada, carnitas and pastor burritos. Try the tacos too

Well I am putting myself on the diet train now. Decided that it would be better to get used to counting my calories again now than waiting till January 1st and stumbling for 2 months and then only have 2 months to nail things down. Now I can stumble for 2 months and actually do a good job come January.

Those goldfish pretzels in the kitchen just keep calling my name though....dammit.

You want the One-Pie brand. 100% pumpkin. Not that there's anything wrong with squash pie. It's all pretty much the same thing. But One-Pie is the best, and as far as I can tell from years of experience you get every bit as tasty a pumpkin pie using their puree as from scratch for a hell of a lot less work. Might not be available in NY, though.

I wonder how many people make pie out of jack o'lantern pumpkins? While edible they are bred for looks, not taste.

Looks, and to be relatively easy to carve. I've made pies with them. Sugar pumpkins are better, obviously, but you can add some more sugar and it works. But that was in college when cooking was more of an exciting novelty and baking and pureeing a pumpkin myself seemed like a good use of my time!

That's how I roll.

Also reminds me that I have a sweet pumpkin that I need to roast. Not sure what I'll do with it, maybe pumpkin bread

Our local family pizza joint does an amazing Sicilian Veggie pizza. It's my kid's favorite. We went out for some Chicago deep dish last weekend and they didn't like it as much, or maybe they just didn't like waiting 45 minutes for a pizza lol
