The organizers of the local points race use a finishlynx photo finish system and a big billboard to write the current point totals on so the racers can see who is leading.

It also depends on how many racers there are and the view the judges have, and how used to running points races they are. Most tracks that I've been to run points races without any sort of cameras and I've rarely seen disputes about placings in sprints. The judges generally have a really good view of things though.

Putting up the points totals for the racers takes half the fun out of points racing-- learning to keep track of points when you can't breathe or see straight is part of points racing.
