Had to stop at a cafe in Sausalito (Cibo's) for an espresso on my way into work this morning. With a temp of 45 degrees, driving rain, and a 25mph headwind, I was ready to pack it in and find a bus. But the sweet nectar, and some borrowed latex gloves, got me over the bridge and into work.

I miss Cherry Coke. Apparently Canadians didn't drink enough of it so it was taken off the market years ago.

I pull shots before every race. I also homeroast my own coffee beans, so I have my own espresso blend that I've made that I really like. Took a few years to get it down, but it's delish. All manual pulls - freshly ground and weighed for each individual shot. About 3 doubles before training and racing. Sometimes I'll do a manual drip coffee via the chemex if I'm the mood for drip, but normally it's espresso.

Switched to the French Press from the Bunn, at home, because we are drinking less in the morning. Using course fresh ground is the way to go. Makes for a rich cup of coffee.

I really enjoy my Starbucks Via Mocha...about $1.50, add hot water...beats the heck out of the sh&t coffee at work. Nice jolt of caffeine to induce proper bowel activity.

Any time the subject of coffee and athletic performance comes up, I remember that Joe DiMaggio would drink a cup of coffee between every inning, hence the nickname "Joltin' Joe." After he retired, of course, he was the face of Mr. Coffee machines for many years.

My coffee consumption has gone from like 12oz/day to like 36...
Free coffee in the break room.

It's really crappy though, I have to drown it in milk and sugar.

I drink an insane amount at work. Free too, but crap. Folgers from giant tubs bought at Costco. There is free coffee for the whole plant. We go through a PALLET of Folgers coffee every week. A. Pallet.

Do any of you own your own espresso machines? If so, any suggestions for a solid, cheap one I could pick up on a college students budget?

We go through a LOT here at Life Tech, but i'm not sure if it's a whole pallet's worth.

Sometimes there is a box or two of leftover starbucks individual packets after a meeting for the exec. and corporate types. As you can imagine it's gone in a blink of an eye. I once had to take one packet and stash it in one of the cabinets for my next break. I kind of felt bad lol...

I have a manual single cup pot that I got at a thrift store. It has a water chamber on the bottom, the top screws on with the espresso grinds in between. Water boils up through the grinds and voila! one big shot of espresso. I see these all the time for $1.

Gaggia Baby. But invest in a good grinder first, you can make decent espresso with a decent grinder and a crap machine. You can't make espresso with a good machine & a crap grinder. It's all about grind precision.
