Diving into the vinyl vault ...

Before dinner: "Everyone Knows This is Nowhere" - Neil Young and Crazy Horse do the genius thing. LOVE this collection of songs.

After dinner: "Clear Spot" - Captain Beefheart Those that like the "Big Lewboski" will know one song from this album. Probably the Captain's most "accessible to the masses" album. It ain't no "Trout Mask Replica", but it still sounds great.

Nice selections. For some reason I have a US copy of Everybody Knows This is Nowhere and a Canadian pressing.

Love the Beefheart also. Favorite one is Mirror Man.

Girl talk? Go to the source: Elvis Costello -

There are some things you can't cover up with lipstick and powder
I thought I heard you mention my name, can't you talk any louder ?

Great song.

My 20 year old amp is crapping out. Anyone have any experience with tube amps. Will I be able to hear the difference during tabata intervals?

Earlier I was listening to Captain Beyond's first LP. Got about half way through. Then my wife showed up and wanted to watch Masterpiece Theater or whatever is the current PBS show from England that is a high class "soap". Too bad the stereo and the nice TV share the same space.

Only 20 years old and "tube" sounds like it is VERY high end.

I think that it is dead. Send it to me and I will dispose of it. Get an iPod.

My bad. The one that is 20 and needs replacing is SS. I am looking at what is probably going to be the purchase to last me the rest of my life. While looking at options, I came across the tube amps.

True story. I went to Barnes and Noble yesterday with my wife. I came up to the register with 3 magazine on stereo stuff.

Her - "You're getting all of those?"
Me - "Yes. My knowledge of audio technology is twenty years out-of-date."
Her - "Going by you clothes and shoes, it's right there with your fashion sense."

She will pay for her insolence. I'm looking at speakers now.

If you need a phono pre-amp in an "integrated" amp you will have very little to choose from. My old Kenwood 9100 died a few years ago and I lucked into a very nice Marantz that was a demo on final discount at a local store. Sweet. I thought that I might have to use my old Kenwood just for the pre-amp part and then send everything to a new power amp.

I pretty much abandoned vinyl when I went with the Denon stuff I have now. I still have a few albums, but I don't currently have a turntable. But I do have a killer cassette deck.

Lots of classic pop-punk and hardcore. Jawbreaker, at the moment.

I saw The Queers live on Friday... really messed up my weekend training, but it was the best show I've ever been to.

Inquiring minds want to know.

I currently have a Nakamichi BX-300 in my rack, but I have found somebody that thinks that he can fix my Eumig 1000 (micro)P. That is a KILLER cassette deck. Audio geeks like to argue about whether the Nakamichi Dragon or the Eumig is the GOAT.

Added in edit: Select the speakers first! Then match the amps to the speakers. And when you go to showrooms for demos take your own music that you know inside out. And if you are going "Big-Coin" they should be able to hook you up with a demo at your house.

As a composer, I have music running in my head all the time. Most of it is mine but sometimes I get a tune stuck in my head. Most recent was Sprinsteen's 'Dark Side of the the Moon.' I don't really like the song, but that bass line just doesn't stop....

Update. Spent 100 dollars to replace power switch on denon amp that sells for about 100 dollars on eBay. Called Klipsch about 2 replacement passive woofers on the forte II's. Called a guy on craigslist about his forte's that are in better shape than mine.

I hate stereos. I'm just going to get earphones for my iPod.

Oh yeah mollusk, my cassette deck is a denon m10hr. Not killer but pretty useless. Can even get cassette players in cars anymore?
