Thought this would be a valuable addition to this thread.

They just finised doing an entire series on self massage with the foam rollers and other tools, it's all broken down into muscle groups. They've also just started a series on stretching, which will be broken down into muscle groups as well. Write ups, pictures, video, etc.
I'm in no way affliated with them, but the information is valuable.

I also had knee pain for years because of tight ITBs. Stretching helped, Foam roller helped. But the thing that put the problem behind me 8 weeks ago was.....power cranks. Who knows if power cranks are going to make me faster, but I credit them with taking my knee pain away.

Ah, the foam roller. JCM's song "Hurts So Good" applies to its use as well. Been having some pain in lower back after 60+ minutes of big gear...a couple of sessions with the foam roller on lower back and all is well.

Just got the Grid and the ball today- WOW!
Didn't realize how effed up my hamstrings were until working on them with the roller. Jeez.
Oh, and I'll reiterate that the Athletes Treating Athletes site is a great resource.

I'd been having upper back weirdness/spasms/tingling for a couple of weeks. Finally decided to foam roll it out the other day. Hurt a bit, but it's been 3 days and I haven't even had so much as an itch!

So do people feel that warming up before using the roller is important? Like with stretching? I'd guess the answer would be that it isn't, seeing that a lot folks use them before bed.
I've found that stretching after a workout while my muscles are still "warm" gives me more benefit than stretching cold. I'm just curious if the same would apply to the roller.
