Fwiw I think it is useless, for the most part.

But if it can teach anyone anything, it's that you don't need a 1400w sprint to win a race. It's so much more about saving energy, timing, positioning, confidence, etc. To that end the video is probably more instructional.

That said I'm glad someone asked so I could break out the ewang!!

Sorry man, but the ewang is weak. _I_ can do those sprints. It's the racing part that is impressive. You said you did like 50 last year, right?

Ha. It was 70-something races last year actually, 50-something USAC races.

Anyone can show up though, with enough gas money and time.. and all I got out of last season was a few unofficial wins, and about 4 points.

This season has been much better so far! On track do to as many races but we'll see.

not ewang because he was asked to provide it. IMO, when power produces a result, it's not ewang (like a fresh/training interval, unrequested, can be).

That's an epic schedule, pro athletes put in less road time than you.

My neighbor races for one of the big SoCal team and between a real job, training, and driving out to races I don't know how his family puts up with it.

I have preached this for so long. Probably written this many times. Races are won win two things. You need both to win.
1. Patience
2. Power
You can have all the power in the world but if you don't use patience you WILL burn yourself out especially in a sprint.
You can have all the patience in the world but if you wait too long and don't have the power when you pull the trigger you will fall short.
The trick to becoming a successful racer is learning when to use both.
I often tell guys to watch Cavendish. He has good power but his patience is astounding. You can watch him soft pedal in the closing kms of a race waiting to pull the trigger. Then when he does he is fully committed to using the power he has.

heresy. Power doesn't matter in bike racing, haven't you read the 33?

In the few races we've overlapped, @mattm and his bright safety-cone helmet are easy to spot.

I should try to learn from it, as I'm the guy who's on the front, off the front, sucked to the back, moving up to the front, shuffled back, etc... Meanwhile he's in the same spot, and I think 3/4 of the time finishing well ahead.

I generally corner in a rhythm, two late pedal strokes, corner then start pedaling again. Only when things really ramp up do I pedal through the entire corner.

yeah

It's usually:
1. impressive
2. majestic
3. beautiful
4. gargantuan
5. mezmorizing

And those adjectives are usually followed up by:
1. My I take a picture - waterrockets
2. It looks like a sleeping baby
3. Is it uncomfortable while training
4. My girlfriend asked me to take a wax mold of it as she erased the pictures - bwahahahaha

Grant's Tomb was the second crit I ever did, and it remains possibly the best crit course I have ever raced - I really wanted to do it this year, actually, but it wasn't in the cards (I damn near won that race, so that be biasing my feelings a bit, I'll admit). I agree, absolutely no reason to crash on that course, it's really very safe. Every single one of those crashes in that video was due to nerves or zoning out on a straight section of the course. That's pretty inexcusable.

Did I over-geek my rip? Macro lenses are used for photographing extremely small subjects, like the crickets I'm hearing.
