Yeah I'm kind of surprised/disappointed, because I took him out for a ride though Chelsea a few months ago (him on my ancient commuter hybrid set up for a short girl, lolz), and he was perfectly sanguine about riding in traffic. I pressed him a little more on the nervousness issue and he said he is worried about the potholes ruining his wheels. I keep telling him I'm going to take him out to River Rd, so maybe I'll just do that instead.

Sucks about the Bicycle Film Festival...I'd made mental note of the fact that it was happening, but slept till 1 on Saturday and only just had enough time to squeeze in a training ride while I still had daylight. Seems I didn't miss much, though...bleh.

I've been hanging out on Sailing Anarchy lately, which is a big sailing forum. Think of Bike Forums, but without rules, and more boobies.

The really cool thing is that actual industry pros hang out on there. Important designers, sailors, etc. I can't imagine Contador, or even DZ, hanging out on Bike Forums.

how strict is usa cycling about giving upgrades? i really want to get out of the 4's but lack the sprint to win cat 4 races, but i am generally very consistent (top tens most of the time and occasionally top 15). One of the biggest issues is that my area lacks a lot of sanctioned races, and the few races that are sanctioned are dominated by a few forever fours (a whole team of them that has won every single race they have entered this year). i know i can survive cat 3 races (and once again place in the tip 15/top 10), because i've survived our weekly training crit which is a 1/2/3 race. i have like 7 points and know i can probably get up to at least 13 near the end of the season.

Back from nyc/home.

What a weekend.

Atleast my friend settled on an apartment. I am not jealous of her rent or living space. Living in NYC on my salary would suck.

Bed Time.

On the note of the bike film fest, I actually happened upon a neat bike showcase on a street when I was in nyc on sat. Figure they were connected. I think one of the dudes that makes messenger bags, is going to make me a red/black wallet since he didn't have one made. (MER bags?)

Tip: don't do 80 in a 70. 77 is the max. 74-75 is safe.

SA is fun. Start racing motorcycles and you can hang out at the WERA forum. Makes SA look like a tea party. But I do like SA, I just don't have cause to visit anymore.

He does have a point re: potholes & wheels, except i trashed my ptap rim in prospect park and put a nice ding in my front rim.

Re the Film Festival: there are actually a few that looked good. There was one on people trying to make the paraolympics and one on a race in the Andes, but it was mostly a bunch of hipster nonsense...

Nonsense like this getting rounds of applause from seemingly everyone except my friends and me. The irony is that the organizer started this thing as a way to "raise awareness" after getting hit by a bus, and here they are promoting this type of dare-devil activity. Looks like their overuse of irony has made them oblivious to the irony in their own life.

Prospect Park sounded pretty good in my head, but I've never actually been there. Is it as much of a sh*itshow as Central Park on a weekend afternoon?
It's not as bad as CP but it's getting close though most parks are crowded on weekend afternoons unless you go to the suburbs. As Jim said he needs to let go of the fear and ride in the street because it's really not that bad.

My wife is doing a great job at our office.
My kids are at home alone and the roofers are on the house. They're freaked out!!!

"What if they break in and take us away?"
"Well, two things: One, if they want ransom, they won't be able get much from us. Two, the owner of the roofing company is our neighbor. So...."

Raise awareness for what, how to ride in a manner which increases your odds of getting hit by a vehicle? If someone rides around recklessly through traffic then go for it but don't complain when bad things happen as a result. I'm constantly amazed at how pedestrians and some cyclists assume they are always in the right when there's an accident with a motorist and don't consider their role in the event.

/rant. Time to go find a hipster to kick of their bike...with some level of irony of course.
