I'm spending 4.5 hours driving tomorrow to go to what probably is referred to one of the worst RRs on the calendar. The turns consist of cones placed in the middle of the road.

Peloton Shelter Dog
Raced in Prospect yesterday with the 45+ kids and did not get shelled. First race since Sept. 2010, I just came off the blood thinning meds this week, so bicycle racing is no longer the potentially life-threatening activity it would be if I were still taking coumadin. Fun being back out there. Hope to do a bunch of races with the team and hope to get in good enough shape to help them out.

That was Big Fun rubbing elbows with the Brauer boys in the Prospect race and then taking in the Mets game. Man, Citi Field is beautiful, like I died and went to baseball heaven. Now all they have to do is field a winning team.
Really would like to race with you in Colt's Neck today Gary, but too hectic and too much driving, we have a family thing in the Bronx. Good luck to you & Chris today.

Actually, David Wright is currently batting .376. Let's hope that continues too.

About to head out to a long (for me since I've been back on the bike) group ride. 70 miles with relatively fast guys supposedly. It's actually 53, but I've got a 9 mile ride there and back.
Longest I've ridden since being back on the bike was 36. But that was with a headwind and solo, so I'm pretty sure I'll be fine. 70 miles used to be a normal solo ride for me, now I'm all nervous about a 70 mile group ride.

It depends on the group. Yesterday we did a paltry 65 miles with limited climbing but today the legs are screaming. Two guys from some team kept pushing the pace and I spent a lot of time otb chasing. Started out with 40+ riders and got down to 10 near the end, then a friend and I dropped out with a few miles to go.

My ride was over before it began. Flatted on the way there, new tube, had a bad patch job on that one, third one I was out of CO2 and the mini pump a guy had wouldn't work on my tube for some reason.
Time to fix the bike up and then go see if I can make another group ride later.

Slight stitches in my rib cages, both sides. Could be nothing, could be pulmonary embolisms. My first PE presented as a similar symptom, although that was about 5x more painful initially, and later twice as bad as that. But never really experienced breathing issues. Gotta schedule a CT scan. In the meantime, back on blood thinners. Really hope it's nothing. That's the problem with many medical conditions. Symptoms could be benign, or they could indicate a very serious issue. Given my recent history, I'd like to get a scan tomorrow and hopefully it's nothing.

Popped from an easy group ride. I just don't have the pop yet. It's coming, but right now I'm just a slow (overweight) TT specialist.

Dropped from another race today. 3 races on the board this year, haven't finished one. I think I'm doing better though.

Ran over a squirrel today toward the end of my training ride. Rear wheel with a very positive "thunk".
I didn't look back.

I saw a car going the other direction run one over a few weeks back. Disturbing. I was glad they didn't swerve to avoid the squirrel and hit me though.

Had one cross my path yesterday with a recently flattened tail...He had a close call, but survived...A squirrel that is...

The last time I hit one it was the front wheel making contact whist going down a hill at about 28 mph. It flipped up and got hung up at the junction of my fork and cyclometer sensor. It was stuck there for a few seconds before being ejected. Better that then going into the wheel and possibly snapping my fork at speed.

Sooo, USACrits speedweek has been interesting. Our top rider is accused of intentionally crashing Isaac Howe last night.
1. No hands were removed from handlebars.
2. Nobody was handcuffed.
3. Our rider did not intentionally crash Howe.
Thanks Brian Holcomb for waiting all of two minutes between calling me to get in touch with our rider and publishing the story.
