Nice shot Hammy. Looks fun.

Funny, I'm the only one I know who brakes with middle and ring fingers on my MTB. I used to do a bit of trials and found that the index finger has a lot more strength to hold the bar when I'm hopping around for a long time. The other fingers are better at brake modulation because they're further out on the lever (old cable/cantilever brakes).

Old habits.

Well now you know one more. And as long as we're talking MTBs, who the hell designed the grips and trigger shifters so that they dig into your fingers and are still difficult to shift cleanly?

...I miss my GripShifts... never missed a shift and could hold on as tightly as needed.

I borrowed my brother's mountain bike for a while, never liked the grip shifters though. Any time I started to go up, I'd pull on the bars and accidentally downshift. Planning on hammering uphill and suddenly being in the bottom gear is not fun.

I do that on my BMW motorcycle because its brakes are not the strongest. On modern trials motorcycles I use just the index finger for brake and clutch. On vintage trials bikes with cable operated drum brake and stiff clutch, as many fingers as I need.

On road bicycles I used to use the first two fingers for the front brake and the index finger for the rear, since I do most of the braking with the front. But I have had nerve problems in my left hand when doing climb repeats with technical descents, so I switched to index finger on the front too. That puts my hand in a better position that hurts less. The EE brakes with the light spring helps a lot as they're strong and have light action.

That's probably way more than you all wanted to know about how I finger things.

A female asked to cook dinner for me tonight. She is not my mother.
Going to the beach for a week. No bike. No nothing.
When I get back. I'm coming back full force.
That is all.

Just got a few more weeks left in beantown.

Went to my first boston sports game yesterday! Saw the red sox with a friend. It was my first ballgame too. Fun.

Had an appointment with an ortho surgeon for my back on tuesday a few hrs after my redeye from portland. Verdict is surgery. Scheduled for Aug 29th. I'm going to have to get cobra to use current insurance. I wish this decision had been made a few months ago instead of now since it throws of timelines and costs a ton more.

In the grand scheme of things, it's still way cheaper than it would be had I been on my parents insurance. I hope things look up after all this is said and done. The last 2.5 years have been miserable...

I would say 'kill it' but you definitely shouldn't do that.

Have fun subby
