I guess the Olympics must be too boring to show on tv, so they're replaying the "dream team" schlock of 20 years ago

It's a great day to ride to the race! 80F and clear sky, sweet.

8 miles to the ferry, 22 miles to the race from the other side of the water, then 40 miles of circuit racing.

Then a SLOW ride back home. Gotta work on my 'tan'.

New job's a blast. I have a great group of people working for me.

The down side is now I'm mgmt, I know more about the upcoming round of lay-off's due to budget cuts. The way it's happening is the individual departments are given $X to cut, and they get to make their own decisions. It's also up to the departments as to whether or not they give their employees a heads up prior to pink slips being handed out; my old department had let the two people they're laying off know, and one of them just found a job in another department. Four IT people are being let go in my college. Their individual departments decided that was where the attrition was going to be, none of them know it's coming. I'm trying to find them soft landings by talking to director level people in other units throughout the campus, so when the pink slips are handed out these guys will have something to fall back on as a bridge job. As of a coffee meeting 30 minutes ago, I've found homes for two, still working on the other two..

So....imagine my surprise when building wheels and the hr manager from my last job hits me up on Facebook, during the convo mentions that the republican guy on the ticket was just at my old work giving a campaign stop/speech.

Found it on YouTube. Surreal.seeing all the people I worked with and the machine tools with a politician in the same screen. Ugh.....

Screw politics but was a totally surreal moment.

I'm going for a 3 hour ride today. Yay me. Sold an almost ugly big number of wheels this week. Cross has taken over the world.

I'd rather not. I think this is probably the first election in a dozen years that I'm so "meh". It's probably because I plan on leaving the country in a few years to move to a tropical paradise anyway, so I don't care anymore.

On the other hand if you were going 71 in a 35 exit/entrance ramp then more power to you. Take calculated risks not stupid ones.

4 hrs of riding. I missed the start of the group ride, so I had to TT for over an hour to catch them, running every red light I came across. Needless to say, I'm tired. I don't think it's possible to drink enough water in Texas Summer to stay hydrated. Your stomach fills up, but you can only absorb so much.

kensuf, laying off employees sucks, no other way to look at it. You're doing great trying to find a home for them. You can only do so much.

psimet, an ugly boat load of wheels? I'm thrilled for you.

Got guilted into going home for the weekend because a bunch of cousins are visiting. It's going to be nice to see them, but I just have a couple of weeks left in boston and I really wanted to stay put especially after having just been in Oregon.

---

Ken, good of you to find them homes!

+ all of it

I don't really want to read about this stuff so here's the deal. If you choose to hang out in a forum of old men cut it out, or at least quit writing about it. I'm not risk adverse either so yes there is an implied threat in there.

Looks like mother nature is giving us a little taste of fall....

Raced in cool, cloudy and slightly wet conditions yesterday...Really, it's a nice change from what we endured in Catskills and most of the summer...

After working in 100 degree heat all week, I skipped the club ride and went into the mountains with a few old friends. We drove to 5500 feet and started climbing from there. It was still hot in places, but nice above 7K.
The plan to get water at the only place out there was thwarted by lightning so we turned back early and mooched a little water from some people who were supporting another ride.
Then the sky opened up. A pretty intense thunderstorm which we rode out of, got dry, and then rode back into for a bit. Finally got dry as we got lower, descending into the heat and I ran out of water, just saving a few drops to wet my throat when it got too dry on the last few climbs.
Back at the cars my friend hands me an ice cold Poweraid he had in his ice chest and it was awesome.

Wife was first on one class and won the overall. Then finished runner up in another division. She looked in-frickin-believable.
Cant wait til her next show. Chick is a beast.
