From 11-06-11:
Well, after having the bearing on the non-drive side replaced a few months ago also, I was told "ride it until it fails and we'll get you a new frame". I was one race and a cookie ride from taking her back in for the warranty replacement..
Yesterday the chainstay decided to insert itself into the equation.
I am now being told that Trek will decide if it is a warranty issue. It will be interesting to see how it is handled now.
Oh yeah, "I was just riding around". Actually it was on a fairly flat road and happened on an upshift.
On the ride over to the Sunday geezer ride I noticed alot of play in my the crank of my Trek Madone 5.2. I thought something was just loose. The owner of the shop, who sold me the bike, is a friend and a regular on the ride. I asked him to take a look at it. He said something to the effect of "the bottom bracket is wallored out, I can put an oversized bearing in it and it will be good for a year or so, then we can send it back and they will send you a new frame. Bring it by tomorrow". That doesn't sound right to me. It's been a great bike up until today. Dammit, dammit, dammit.

My wife went on our group ride. I didnt go because Im tryiing to get over a cold ive had for a few days...
she was riding along and saw a wallet laying in the road. She stopped and picked it up...

Interesting. Most chainstay failures I've seen were from from chain suck, wheel rub, or manufacturing issues. If you didn't have the first two...
The oversize bearing story is interesting. A dealer told me that said company made the frames wrong for a bit, the bearing seats in the BB were too wide by a smidgen. Instead of replacing all the frames they sent out oversize bearings to the dealers. They corrected the bearing seat for later frames.

Got stung by a couple of wasps trying to get a photograph of their hive, then took a spill on wet granite stairs finishing the hike. Didn't land on my elbow, but I've hit a bruise and scrape tgat stops right at the scar. Badass looking, but not really the look i was going for.

I'm going to assume that it was a middle finger and you were pointing it at someone..
As for the wallet. Throw the crack out, then call the guy back and give him everything else back. Or just turn the whole thing into the cops and let them sort it out.

Do not throw the crack out if you call the sky. If you meet him and he's unstable (duh) it may enrage him. Cops. Dumpster. Mail it without the crack Probably best not to meet up with someone who smokes crack.
Unless of course you're like me.

Well, I've finished my first week of off-the-bike training. It could have gone a little better. I went a little harder in the gym this week than I should have, given that I haven't really lifted since last fall.
At least no one seemed to notice I was walking like I had just gotten off a horse. Or at least they didn't say anything to me about it.

Emo rant:
Since finding out my wife was having an affair and leaving her I hadn't shed one tear. Last night after getting back from the ocean and getting in the shower I cried like a f***ing lunatic. I guess being on vacation with just my youngest daughter and not the rest made me feel quite lonely and lost. The pure reality of what my wife had done ripped through me deeper than it ever had before. I suppressed it and almost denied it had ever happened. Yesterday it pushed forward hard.

I've quoted Robin Williams before when he said divorce was 'close to death'. I know what he means and it puts a hole in you that you learn to live with.
As for Treks, a friend offered to let me take his Trek 5000 home and pay "whatever I think it's worth" if I want it.
In 'Tales from fred rides' we were returning from our club cookie ride yesterday when a helmetless kid pulls up on his fixed gear conversion. BF member Shprung who has ridden everything including Paris-Brest-Paris on a fixed gear encourages the kid to race him and they took off, blowing through a stop sign with cars honking.
At the next major intersection, the kid is rubbing his shoe on the top of the rear wheel to slow down. I guess he forgot to put brakes on the thing.

Poll question:
Do I put up some of my wife's contest pics from the weekend?
Some of you have seen them, are they ok to put on here?
