It's got maybe about 2k miles since the dent occured, I think I'm good...but I'll keep an eye on it.

Did y'all see this article from USAC? The author seems to be one of the folks that uses the term, "female" as though it were synonymous with, "women." It seems like an awkward word choice, particularly in an article promoting women in the sport. The way it's used makes it seem almost animalistic in it's nature, like the author is discussing livestock.

"Like Young at the Home Depot Center and velodrome operators all over the country, Basulto is also always on the lookout for fresh ways to get females down to the track."

"Like in Carson, equipment is free, although Basulto admitted that as the season wore on, more and more females inquired about purchasing bikes for themselves."

Do y'all use the word in this way, or know others that do?

He's using the word to distinguish between males, females, and this sport's large transgender or gender neutral community.

Among some feminists, "woman/women" is considered perjorative because to them it implies a sub-group of men, rather than equals. Don't know why the male/female distinction doesn't do the same to them.

I think he's also trying to be inclusive of other species.

Maybe the author has a military background.....

I want to try track cycling someday.

"All y'all" is plural.

At least that's my understanding of the terms.

Which is why I refer to such people simply as, 'Toots'. They always seem to respond.

Not quite, CDR. All y'all would be used if you are talking to a group that might be comprised of more than one sub-group, to ensure everyone knows you are including everyone. Y'all can be used in the singular, but normally means both the singular individual, and anyone attached to them in the given context. If you were talking a a friend, at his house, and said "Y'all want to go to the movies?", you would be inviting him and whomever is there with him. Similarly, if you were with more than one friend, and asked "All y'all want to go to the movies?" you would be making sure you included everyone.

Additionally, when referring to the plural posessive form, one should employ the double contraction, "y'all's." For example, "Put y'all's coats on the bed."

I remember that when I was an undergrad at Berkeley in the 80s, you would occasionally see it spelled "womyn" as a means of taking the word "man" out. It doesn't seem to have caught on.

Thought creaky's post was interesting so I pulled the top 50 from a race I did last summer. First 50 are in order, second 50 are sorted by age (descending. Average age in the P/1/2 field was 27.32. And I was one of the oldest
