for excellent sushi, i'll pay dearly. preference is for traditional japanese and/or really-fricking-good, basic fish. if there's cream cheese on the menu, i'm not really into it.
i generally get off more on finding quality food at low prices than upscale places.
traveling solo and will get in late wednesday (so maybe only time for a late-night spot) and not certain on the time i'll have on thursday. debating between spending the night or driving north to flag or beyond.
thanks!

Ha, I know of a lot of other nice places in the area, but not sure on Japenese/Sushi. I'll ask a couple of coworkers and see if I get any recommendations. Everyone here is really finicky when it comes to sushi. Not being on a coast means theres a ton of bad places and only a handful of good places. The one I go to, is more on the west side of Phoenix.
Rkwaki: Hey SheshulEd do you know of any good steak places?
SheshulEd: No but there's a really nice strip club on Broad Street
Rkwaki: Oh thanks, that really helps

in my experience, awful sushi spots can exist everywhere, even in coastal areas. given that the fish we (i) like to eat are caught deep at sea and are flash-frozen when the boat is 2 weeks from shore, i don't worry too much about the last miles. the idea of 'bluefin that has never been frozen' is pretty much non-existent whether in california or kansas. if it's a good place, it's a good place.
i'm willing to travel to west phoenix for good fish.

In Central Phoenix, I'd recommend Donovans.
https://www.donovanssteakhouse.com/ph...teakhouse.html
In North Scottsdale, I'd recommend Bourbon
https://www.fairmont.com/scottsdale/dining/bourbonsteak/
In West Phoenix, I'd recommend The Arrowhead Grill (my side of town, I go there about once every two weeks)
https://www.arrowheadgrill.com/
Seafood/Steak in North Scottsdale, I'd recommend The Ocean Club (it's a Mastros restaurant)
Not quite a steak house, but easily the best restaurant in the greater Phoenix area and easily in the top ten places I've eaten in the world...Binkley's. It's expensive and roughly a 3-4 hour experience, but phenomenal.
https://binkleysrestaurant.com/
There's also a Binkley's Midtown and a Cafe Binks, which are owned by the same chef, but not as formal as the one in the link.
I also enjoy this place in South Scottsdale....Posh - you basically get a list of ingredients, you mark the ones you like, don't like and they make your meal based on that. So you really have no idea what you're eating until its put in front of you.

thanks!

Big day today.
Normally on Monday and Wednesday evenings I meet Lucas at the end of his soccer practice and we ride home together. But tonight I am stuck at the office waiting for a late meeting that may or may not be called, so my wife and I have decided to let out the leash a bit and let Lucas ride his bike home (about 1.25 miles) by himself. It's all on quiet neighborhood streets and about half of it runs along the local park. He's 9. He's done the ride with me a dozen times and knows his way around the neighborhood. And he'll have to wait at the house by himself for 15-20 minutes before my wife gets home.
I think he's prepared for this. We shall see.

^ That's great.
I've managed to restrain myself so that Junior can do his dismount from our couch. One of the first times he got up there I caught him as he bounced up and somehow flipped forward and off the couch. His head was literally an inch from the floor, body totally vertical upside down. Sometimes the dismounts aren't graceful but now he's consistently better. It's 7 1/2 years before he's 9 so a different world.

In other news the Missus said that her expectation is that I'll be going to Interbike in 2014. She's committed to look after Junior while I go. For me this is huge as I really haven't traveled anywhere on my own since the Missus got pregnant, skipping two Interbikes, two SoCal training camps, two Vegas post-tax-season trips (normally taken with the Missus), etc.
On the other hand the couple week Jan-into-Feb SoCal training trip will be nigh impossible due to her being a CPA. Therefore the FL training trip (in Dec) will have to do for warm weather riding before March.

I was afraid you'd say that.
As it is it's interesting to see him climb in and out of a basket, a new thing in the last week for us. When we first put him in the basket, he looked like a Nerf football swaddled in a little blanket.

It really happens all at once. My 9 year olds have a permanent free pass to ride their bikes within about 3 mile radius. The other day they got a call from a girl in their school, inviting them over, and they hopped on their bikes and went. After they left I realized I had no idea who this girl was, or where she lived.
I got on my own bike and pedaled around until I saw their bikes, and peeked through the open door of the house. The house was a bit of a mess, the mom (who looked to be about 20) was arguing with somebody on the phone, and the three kids were sitting on the floor happily playing Stratego.

Not sure yet but realistically in on Tuesday, out on Saturday, with my bike (Sept 9-13?). I may have wheels (a friend usually drives in, a second one has driven in as well). If things are a bit more free at home then in Sunday or Monday, out Saturday.

Pirates and Cardinals game starts in a few minutes. They've always been my team, but there was never much of a team to follow, especially once I moved down here 20 years ago. Pirates don't exactly get a lot of out of market TV time. Now that they're in the playoffs for the first time since 1992 (when I was 4), I get to watch them.

Dec 18-26, New Port Ritchey. First and last days are travel mostly so really 19-25. Debating what to bring, if I should bring my road bike or buy a bike down there (a mtb for road use that I'd leave there). Probably road bike, but just thinking of possibilities.
