not only wouldn't I know what team that is, I sure wouldn't know their sponsors. If you filled in a lot of the details I probably couldn't name three rider.
No shock though...SRM is better than Quarq. If money isn't an issue it's a no brainer. Remember when pros used powertaps?

I'm not a big fan of blanket statements like "this is better than that". Both are good devices. Both work. Both do the job. The "issue" here is interoperability based on a loosely defined ANT+ spec. The SRM was designed as a system. The Quarq was designed using the Garmin as the reference head unit. When you mix and match, you depend on the spec and vendor interoperability testing to make sure everything works as expected. It should not surprise anyone that there would be potential glitches.

Tony Martin won the Worlds TT on a Quarq so they got the right power meter on his bike by then. I just saw it when I googled but he used a 58T big ring. Jeepers.

For the individual user problems are much less impactful or obvious. Some people are just fine with down time or taking hours of their own time dealing with a broken PM. But if you're in a position where you're dealing with this on a "fleet" basis (as a vendor, team mechanic, or coach) a 80-90% failure rate makes good customer service much less relevant, and if you're doing a scientific study and spending lots of time and money, it makes it irrelevant.
And it makes one better than the other.

There is no doubt that the second generation Quarqs had electronics issues. Way too many failures for such a low volume product. The initial analysis is that they got it right with the third generation Riken/Elsa. Let's let time be the judge.

I have no doubt that other things work. And if the question is most bang for the buck, I have no idea. But if the question is why would a pro choose to use a given PM over one he's sponsored by it should be pretty obvious that he's more comfortable going that route. Could he be wrong? Sure. Pros choose stuff for dumb reason despite data that indicates they should do otherwise. But given the relative metrics we have are 'it works' and 'cost,' and cost isn't an issue here.

Exactly. The pro doesn't have to be concerned about cost. If I could afford to own a Ferrari as my daily driver, would I? Sure.

Do you drive your SRM daily? Oh wait. There goes that argument.

Bored? I'm not arguing. I have an opinion. It's that the pro in question use an SRM because he thinks it better than the one he's sponsored by. Do you have some other opinion on that?

Wife's going in for knee surgery. Ligament replacement. There's been a ton of these over the years, mostly cadaver sourced.
Come the zombie apocalypse there will be a lot of undead who won't be able to make hard side cuts, especially to the right.
Worth noting when confronted.
