Dude, you deserved that lol (as long as you weren't actually hurt other than pride). Bunny hop it straight on at a minimum, don't do any of that side to side bunny hop, just asking for more trouble. Or just walk it two feet off the sidewalk/curb. No reason to risk wrecking like that man!

I'm sure there is some mechanics forum, but for a creaky bb30, re-install with like a loctite compound or something?

That hit and run story is sickening and sad. The guy had two young kids, ugh. Not that people without kids are worth less, but to take a parent away from children like that is just brutal.

rbart, don't worry, you're not alone. I was trying to get a jump on a left turn at a light that had just turned green yesterday. In pushing off, I somehow managed to pull up on the bars while turning left in such a way that I pulled the front wheel out from under myself and dumped myself on my left hip. That was pretty humiliating.

Loctite 609 retaining compound. Note that this is not thread locker. I use four dots at the clock points.

Thanks grolby...
I've done that move daily for 5yrs now and never have I had an issue. Definitely going to be more careful.

The body is telling me NOT to do that again. The shoulder and hip are complaining.

Spawn has a guitar lesson with this guy this week. He did a kickstarter for his new album, and one of the rewards was a lesson. He's opening for ani difranco locally this week, and he got us tickets and backstage passes to do the lesson. Pretty awesome.

The new bike came in yesterday. I just need to put the crankset, power meter, and race wheels on. Does anyone have experience with bicycle insurance? It seems like it could be worthwhile considering that there have been multiple crashes in nearly every race I've done, and I'm riding a shiny new bike now.

I've been having a bit of trouble breathing lately. It started in early March and has been getting worse. The best way to describe it is I feel like I am wearing a really tight compression shirt all the time. My wife has even asked if I'm ok because just sitting around or lying in bed reading, she noticed I seem to be working hard to breathe. And during races or really hard efforts, it's awful.

I went to my asthma doctor this week thinking that maybe my asthma was getting worse. He had me do a pulmonary function test, ran some blood tests and took a chest X-ray and so far everything looks normal. Now he has me on a load of prednisone.

And if that doesn't work, he wants me to do a stress test to see if it is my heart and not my lungs that are the problem.

So after 18 months of rehabbing my knee, my legs feel great but I breathe like crap.

Couple of miles from the house and around the corner from the cri course is this place.

I've walked through there when I was looking for some vintage Alfa's. check out the 2006 Ford for $499,940.

That seems a lot to pay for a 2006 Ford. I found a perfectly good 06 Taurus on Autotrader for $3000.

I must admit that now with every sip of water comes the small internal voice asking if this is the sip that kills me.

A few years ago, a couple of radio station DJs thought it would be fun to have a contest to give a prize to whoever could drink the most water. After 1 contestant died, they realized it was a bad idea.

Yeah, a woman died of hyponatremia in a marathon I did years back (Marine Corps Marathon in 2002). She drank a full cup of water at every mile and never had any sports drink.

Here's a good book on the subject. It's really pretty interesting. Pro marathoners don't run into hydration issues, because they don't stop to drink and they sweat a lot. The recreational marathoner has to be careful, though, if you chug a big bottle of water at every mile (there are usually drink stations every mile) then it's very easy to overdo it. As you go into a dehydration situation, your only real negative is that you slow down. Over-hydration, though, can shut your whole nervous system down.

I remember that radio show stunt. I think it was near Sacramento, CA. It was a real tragedy. It was meant to be a funny way of awarding some listener with a Nintendo or something. The gal won the game machine for her kid(s) and then went home, laid down on the bed and died. Horrible.

There's an unfortunate tendency for people to think that the human body is like an engine and water is like coolant. The reality is that it's nothing like that. At this point, dehydration and heat illness are linked in the public consciousness, and it's a serious problem because they do not necessarily have anything to do with each other! I had heat exhaustion on the last day of a three-day bike tour I did with a friend a few years ago, and at the time I was confused that I was having any symptoms, because I was drinking plenty of water. But heat illness happens simply because your body is unable to cool itself quickly enough, not because you're dehydrated. I should have been dumping those bottles of water over my head, not drinking them. Fortunately, it was a minor case, and I was fine - just disoriented, dizzy and sick for a few hours after getting home. Dehydration, as it turns out, isn't a significant danger under most circumstances, and is even a routine event for lots of athletes. Elite marathoners are typically around 10% dehydrated by the end of a race, if not more, with no danger to their health at all.

Honestly, I never gave my increasing shortage of breath, nor my slight pressure on my chest, much thought, almost until it was toooooo late. Ended up in Emergency, and the cardiac cath lab, with 4 stents in the left side of my heart, which probably kept me alive................

In boot camp they'd make us down a full canteen of water in under 10 seconds and if you didn't finish in time you'd have to down another.

Actually they do. You're much more susceptible to heat illness if you're dehydrated or under hydrated. People take this to mean proper or over hydration makes you immune to heat illness, which it doesn't.

The body cools itself in a variety of ways, one of those is sweating. Stop sweating and you lose that cooling, which is what happens when you're dehydrated. Core temp goes up, hello heat illness. Also worth noting that performance decreases as hydration goes down, there's actual studies that are hard to argue with on this point.

Fluid in the body is the primary coolant in any case. The body thermo regulates primarily by moving blood around. It's why blood flow to the extremities shuts off as our core temp goes down, and why certain places have a lot of heat exchanging capillaries close to the surface of the skin. That said hydration only goes so far and you can over hydrate and kill yourself.

The other factor that gets lost is the temp of the fluid you're drinking. Go out riding in 100 plus degree weather with regular water bottles and you're going to be drinking 100 degree water which is just adding to your heat load. Drinking cold water reduces it. A little bit of ice cold water does a lot more than a lot of warm water.

I developed a bunch of heat management strategies when I was racing in Texas summer heat, particularly for TT's. Proper hydration with a cool, electrolyte balanced solution was just one of several.

It wasn't a coincidence that my winning margins over the same folks tended to be greater in hotter weather, they would carry more heat load at the start, and a much greater heat load by the finish. Some were probably under hydrated, some were properly hydrated, and some were overly hydrated. Just one factor.
