Zitter, that's probably the best sponsorship deal I've heard of for a non-Pro or non-USAC Elite team.
There were two women's USAC-Elite teams around here that got mid-level carbon fiber bikes and a few kits, along with race fees and travel support. One team ended up losing its elite riders and became a local team. The other ended up becoming a pro team.
And there's another team of 1/2s around here. They get a few kits each, and I think they get the opportunity to buy bikes at cost or cost+, but they aren't getting free bikes.
Lastly, I met a guy in a UCSD kit on a local ride a couple weeks ago. He's in grad school here in NC now. I forget his name though.

Shoot, I've got a carbon bike and I still can't win a race. Must be something else going on...

We've been happy with our current deal, but most of us don't even use the Speedsters because we actually much prefer our personal bikes to them and would rather either get better bikes or no bike at all and use the money for either travel coverage or other gear. We were discussing about trying to get a better deal for bikes because there are several other similar performing teams in our area that get much better and we're trying to discourage people from jumping ship for better bikes at other teams, as bikes are a pretty big factor for people picking new teams.

I'm mostly impressed that you remembered to change your signature in the hydracodone haze. Anyway, you're cat 1, but I bet you poop like a cat 5 right now.

Congrats Matt.
Anyone read Steve Tilford's blog? The Cavendish incident has re-ignited his commentary on contact in amateur racing.

Edit: Sorry if that sounded like a bit of a buzz kill. Congrats on the progress.

Hey everybody, I'm looking for some opinions on what would be realistic sponsorship goals for an up and coming cat 1/2 team. My team revived their cat 1/2 team this year after a several year hiatus (it's all currently 2's right now, but we're working on our 1's) after having some promising 3's upgrade and several 2's joining the team. We've been performing pretty well for a first year team (several top finishes in local p1/2 races and very strong showings in 2's races), but our sponsorship opportunities have been a bit lacking (in our opinion, but we're not exactly sure how much to expect). To give an idea; this year, our sponsorship deals for our 1/2 team have been: 2 road kits, 1 skinsuit, cost + 10 walk-in at our sponsor shop, full race reg, and Scott Speedsters (aluminum frames) w/ Ultegra 10spd. We're trying to push for the same deal with better bikes (at least mid level carbon frames), but we're not too sure how much it would be realistic for us to shoot for. I'd appreciate anybody's input who has raced for teams at similar levels and their opinions on whether we're expecting too much or not (budget aside).

Question: Riding/racing in the evening about an hour before sunset to sunset. Should I get clear glasses or amber tinted?
Looking at Pyramex safety glasses.

I think amber works really well at that time of day. I have a bunch of those Pyramex glasses lying around. They're pretty indestructable and so cheap that I buy 2 or 3 at a time. My only issue is that they tend to fog up more than nice glasses.
