Nice. Had a few club mates/friends in that race. Few top 10s and a W. Good job. It ain't easy racing with a hangover Hope to see you at the races this year, since you're local. If you see a massive beard, be sure to say hi.

Will do! I am on michael david winery (delta velo), and I am on my scott addict until I can afford to get a new bike. I was not racing hung over, I was racing with a cold, but I think I coughed up whatever was in there!

I'm thinking I remember racing with you at Henleyville. Your teammate and I got shoved into gravel shoulder coming into the finish.

From what little I know about racing in your area, I would start build now if you want to be competitive in the spring. If your goals are farther out, stick with base or plan a periodic schedule.

2/3 of the way through my own healing process, I'm amazed at people getting out so soon after surgery. Two weeks after my surgery, getting on a bike was just completely off the table. The pain and tenderness just did not make that an option. I suppose that everyone is different and it probably also has to do with characteristics of the break, etc (mine ended up being in 5 pieces), but I'm still not planning on trying to train on the road for a few weeks, probably not until I have my pin out. That's partly because I'm paranoid about the damage the implant might do if I were to fall off, partly because I think the bumps would hurt and we've got a lot of bumps on the roads out here.

Your situation sounds like mine - I ended up being off the road for ~ 3months. I got on the trainer pretty early on though and started running too 2-3wks post surgery. By the time I had my pin removed I was going a little stir crazy but unlike the plates they can bend if you take an impact; my ortho kept the pin in until he thought that the union was calcified enough to be as strong (or stronger) than before my crash. I did do a few rides with the pin in while I was waiting for an appointment to have it removed and found it a little uncomfortable where the end of the pin scrapes the skin on the back of your shoulder. Mostly that was when trying to ride out of the saddle, so not an issue indoors. FWIW I was 41 at the time, so was pretty sure I wasn't healing as fast as a 21 yr old.

Yeah, I've ridden a commuting bike outside, but only once so far and it made me a bit nervous. It's funny, the pin is actually bugging me most at the front, it's poking the skin at the front of my collarbone. The back mostly bothers me if I lie wrong when sleeping or laying in bed. Alas, I'm not 21 either, but a bit closer to it than you were, seven years instead of 20 .

Nice stroll with some old friends today. Was climbing and started to drop them so I went at my own pace, pass some dude in a blue kit and then notice his shadow drafting me. I kept increasing the pace by about 20W every 30 seconds to drop him but nothing! Then I dialed the bike up for 400W and held it for about 3 minutes and still nothing! I was sort of redlined and then I thought, "Well let me simulate what its like to sprint at the end of a race when you're already cooked". Shifted and went into a full sprint for about a minute as I approach the summit. I saw his shadow for about 30 seconds and then he dropped off. He gets to the top where both of us can barely breathe, he says, "damn right as you sped up I was planning on going around and dropping you, guess not today!". We both lol'd exchanged names and I went down to climb up again with my buddies.

Good day in the saddle but I am gonna enjoy tomorrow off, legs are starting to feel it.

Set out to do hill repeats on the single speed. I wanted to do 5 laps on a 13 minute, 8% hill but it takes a lot of muscle to do that on a single speed, and after 2 repeats I was not confident in my ability to finish another one.

Then I rode a half hour to a 6% hill intending to do 3 laps, but the freezing rain started. So I just did one.

Then I made a major error and decided to loop home on a back road rather than retracing my path on the state road. The road was basically doubletrack. Sandy, snowy, fishtaily glop all over the road, spiced with the occasional local driver tearing down the middle of the road.

But at least I wasn't on the trainer!

40 mile recovery ride, set some PR's on the way out. I'm definitely getting stronger, got a FTP test on Tuesday and I'm hoping to bump it up even more.

thrashed myself yesterday on the sdbc A ride (first real group ride in a good 4 months) to test out my legs and see where i'm at fitness-wise. did another 60m/3800ft today z2/3 plus some hammer pace and felt surprisingly good. the season is beginning to look a little more* optimistic for me as i was unsure what kind of form i would be able to achieve after my accident. another goal for me other than get my 2's upgrade is that, never in my life have i done it, i will get to sub 10% body fat this year. i swear it

Hour and a quarter or so of endurance on the trainer. Working my way up. Had an unexpected equipment change, I've wanted to switch seatposts between the road and CX bike for a while (the Thomson setback on the road bike was sitting right at the bend, I worry about ovalizing the seat tube), so went ahead and did it. But I can't tell forward from backward, and there wasn't enough room on the rails of my Flite Gel Flow to get it into the right position on the non-setback Thomson I swapped onto the road bike. It had been a big PITA to get the seatposts cleaned up and switch, so I dug out an old Toupé and used that - it has a shorter nose. I don't know, though. And it's white, ugh. Giving it a try anyway. If it doesn't work out, I'll just buy a new seatpost. I didn't want to be getting back on the bike and testing out a change in equipment at the same time, and it's all just due to my own stupidity.

Nice work zitter, and you can get there. Actually, one of the surprising things for me after my collarbone break is that, despite two months off the bike during the worst time of the year for eating healthy, I haven't gained weight, if anything I've lost two or three pounds. I tend toward skinny anyway and wouldn't have expected much weight gain, but that was still not what I expected to happen.

thanks for the encouragement. I've always been on the heavy side and i ballooned up an extra 20lb after my accident. at thanksgiving i weighed myself and came in at 202 (i'm 5'11") and realized i needed to get my **** together. so far I've lost almost all the extra weight i've put on. in prior seasons, i usually raced at around 175-180 but was still never under 10%, so this year I really want to get to sub 170 or even 165

I added the dialing up to 400W for flavor, but really thats about the wattage I was doing. It was on a climb so slightly more exciting than the MUP.
