I wouldn't stand all day. The number I see thrown around is to stand 4 minutes for every 30 minutes you sit, so every 2 hours I'll stand for at least 16 minutes.

Nope, this is what I'm planning to get:

https://www.varidesk.com/varidesk-pro...UijhoCZ9vw_wcB

There are desks on a lift in cubicle land but I don't want to lose my office.

Or you could take a 15 minute break once in the morning and once in the afternoon, plus lunch...
I couldn't stand to not stand and go outside every couple hours. I hate desks!

Morning group ride was painful! Thursday is the last hard day before rest day and I was feeling a bit fatigued, so thought I might just sit in. Nope. I ended up initiating a chase group a couple minutes into the ride, riding an insanely hard break for like 20 minutes until I got spit out a few minutes from the main sprint. I was on the edge of popping for like 10 minutes. Ow ow ow. Must have been a hard one for everyone because no one bothered with the KOM afterwards. Time to ride nice and easy to work.

Folsom Bike Race Ride (hammerfest or whatever the general term is) last night. First one of the year, so there was a big turnout and some of the faster teams organized quickly to kick up the pace. Stayed in the lead group up over the primary climb, then got shot out into the second group when I was "recovering" and they punched it over the crest. Bummer, but great ride as always.

Hi tetonrider.

The ride starts at 6:30AM, and takes about an hour.

I went out this morning for an EZ/whatever hour after two hard workouts over the last couple days. It felt nice to spin around with no protocol.

Tomorrow will be off,
Sat 2hrs with a 90' tempo interval
Sun race Ontario, unless someone can convince me to drive to Santa Clarita for Chuck Pontius...

@TMonk - voluntarily doing a 90 minute tempo interval the day before a race? what is the purpose of that workout?

Bumped FTP estimate. Tried to do 1 hour 80-90% with 1' intervals every 5', no recovery. Realized quickly that it wasn't going to happen. Revised to 2x20' of the same. Still really hard, and that was with laughably weak 1' efforts. Yep, I have to work on all of this stuff. Doing it relative to the new FTP probably didn't help, since I think what I can do indoors is still closer to my old FTP estimate..

you guys are making my head spin today

why would you do 90' of tempo the day before a race? why would you do 90' of tempo at all unless the goal is to make yourself tired?

raise your hand if you can do 80% - 90% FTP for an hour with 1' intervals every 5 minutes (that's 12x1' intervals, I couldnt do that with any efficacy while riding in recovery zone in between)?

the cycling ethics thread, wth?

We discussed this a few pages back in the forum... with my goal races in May/June, at this point I am still focused on training and accumulating TSS. I would do a hard workout regardless on Sunday, why not race?

Well yes, that is the goal

Shovelhd intervals! I am interested in these as well and would like to try them during my next (race prep) block. @shovelhd, care to comment? 12x1' itself kind of seems like a stretch, surely these are done at decreased intensity, no? The workout cookbook also has 20" sprints as a variation.

i'm not critiquing the race, i'm questioning the tempo. IMO, if you're doing to do something hard, do something hard.

Like I said when you brought this up, there are better ways to go about this and still get something out of the race. 90' tempo intervals aren't really good for much IMO regardless of time of year as they aren't hard enough to really raise your ftp

3x3 vo2max mixed with 6 sprints. I really want to focus on improving sprinting. Tried to really concentrate on driving the pedals into the road with every pedal stroke. New peak and 20 second power PRs, so that's good. Will keep working on it.

I'm just happy to know I'm not the only knucklehead around here that benefits from having a coach.

Replaced 1hr easy with 2hrs tempo @ 40rpm, to build muscles and stuff.

you sound angry. you mad bro?

For full disclosure, I am not claiming to be an expert at training and physiology, it's just that there are many who would disagree with you about the worthiness of riding in z3. I apologize if my post seemed like a personal attack, that is not at all what I had intended.

What do you guys usually do the day after vo2max intervals? I did 6x3 on Tuesday and planned on doing some threshold intervals yesterday but cracked. This was all on the trainer so maybe I'll have better luck if I did it outside.

On the one hand my coach was giving me 3x30min tempo intervals when I was doing base training, on the other hand they were being done in the middle of 5hr rides and it was considered maintenance work to avoid losing FTP, not build work to increase FTP. If you're looking to gain watts and not just maintain I'm sure you'd be better served doing a workout that is sharper and more polarized. 1.5hrs of steady state tempo sounds maddening.
