Rollers

Getting my new E-motion rollers next week. I have never ridden on rollers. I was thinking if starting out on my mtn bike so not to crash my high $$ road bike .
Any advice would be greatly appreciated...

look 20 ft in front of you, not at your front wheel. It's really not difficult, just takes a bit of getting used to.

Ride the road bike....

E-motions lessen the learning curve. You will like them...

Follow the advice above.

you'd have adjust the wheel base on the rollers (not terribly hard), and it would be bumpy. As said, ride your road bike or (post about it in the 41 instead).

I would think the lower tire pressure would also make it more difficult (I can definitely notice on the rollers if I am 10psi lower than usual).

Rollers aren't that hard, even when first getting started. But please record your attempts.

Bikes: T1, S2, P3

A mtn bike is probably 10 times harder to ride on them. Also how much damage can you do to a bike going 0mph really.

Start next to a wall, and remember the faster you go the more stable it is (just like real life). Get it up to 20mph and you will glide no problem.

If you are sweating on them, make sure you clean them really well frequently. After a couple years of pretty heavy use, and being a bit lax with that, mine are totally trashed. It is rather painful to shell out another $800+, but well worth it.

MTn bike wheel base might be too long, and the knobby tires will make it twice as hard, and loud as hell. When I was learning, I just put mine next to a wall for shoulder and elbow taps, and used a little crate as a stepstool/oh sh*t platform. It will take a couple hours to get the hang of it. I started with cheap test-ride platform pedals until I felt comfortable, then switched back to clipless.

Good luck, I find them a lot more fun than trainers, and since you are trying to keep balance you arent just working your lower legs, but your arms and core as well.

i have a table next to mine. 1st time i rode them, i hung onto the table while spinning easy and then when i got the courage to, i put my hand on the bars. i admit, i had a helmet on. set it to resistance level 1 at first, it's easier if you're going a little faster, just like riding in a straight line outside is easier if you've got momentum. i have short legs so to get on the bike, i stand on the left side of the frame of the rollers, throw right leg over the bike onto the pedal, and start pedaling to get onto the saddle and clip in left foot. to get off, i unclip left foot, move the front wheel off of the front roller onto the floor and step over the handlebars.

i keep a small handtowel on the table, along with extra water bottles, remote controls, laptop, etc.

re: sweating all over them, my sweat drops on the floor and misses the rollers but i have a fan on and use my handtowel to wipe my head. I also wear wristbands to keep sweat from dripping down my arms.

Hi , I did my first ride yesterday of about 10 min. With non clip in pedals and all went well . I was near a wall and did have to hold on a few times but was soon going strong.
this morning I did a 45 min. Ride with clip in pedals and only had one mishap when my towel fell of my shoulder . I was riding with one hand , drinking coffee (my wall was along a stairway , coffee was on a step ) tried to ride with no hands but that will have to wait , did ride standing up .. The e-motion rollers are very good for this newbie to rollers ...
