Yeah I bet it's dry roads at Johnny Cake. Last year the first one was ridiculous. To be fair it was also a month earlier.
... just checking the weather there ... strong headwind for the sprint, as usual! Don't go until you pass the fire hydrant. And 29F wind chill at race time.

Bleh, if it was a bit colder I'd definitely wear full tights, if it was a bit warmer I'd definitely wear knee warmers. Time to flip a coin!

By the way, turns out I know the guy who won out of your break at Plainville. He's a very, very good cross racer. Spent most of the last season really cleaning up at the local races. Started this season as a 3 on the road. Seems like winning that race sealed the deal on the upgrade, since he'll be in the 1/2s at Brumble. Funny you described him as a hulkamaniac. He's bigger than me but not by much! Strong as hell, though.

Yes, he's got a lot of punch about him. He was right after me in the rotation so I wound up having to pull a bit less hard to avoid getting popped. I figure CX racing translates really fuggin well to aggressive crit riding, and he did that with gusto. I look forward to (hopefully) working with him at future races.
Also, he was a 2 before Plainville, we had a discussion about field size on my race's strava file because the promoter under reported the starters by roughly 10-12 riders in the prelim results, and he was worried it would affect his upgrade points toward cat 1. The official results are underreporting starters by the same amount, but seeing as I finished 6th in a ~25 man field no amount of fuzzy math can possibly squeeze an upgrade point out of it so I'm content to not care all that much. Monsieur Hulkamaniac got in touch with the promoter and last I heard he was satisfied, so maybe promoter dude only published the 1's and 2's in the race and he can base his points count on that anyway.

Ah ok. He must've finished off the upgrade a couple weeks earlier, then. Anyway, funny that he's already concerned about his points for cat 1, but he is strong, so no doubt he'll get there.

Brumbles Kermesse
Really enjoyed it. Great location. Nice course. Raced the Masters - all good with the exception of a couple of stray cars that jumped in between pace cars and field. Large teams kept the race moving along pretty fast and nothing got more than about 10-15 seconds advantage. Congrats to CCB and thanks to the people who made it all happen.

Yep, Brumble was great. Looking forward to doing it again next year.
Not exactly conventional road racing, but I'm heading up to East Burke Vermont for the Rasputitsa gravel race on April 16th (next Saturday). I'll be spending the week prepping my cross bike, which hasn't gotten a lot of love in the last few months. Judging by the photos I've seen, it's going to be 40.5 miles and 4,000 feet of climbing all on mud tires. That's gonna be quite a slog. The roads look nasty indeed.

I guess I'll whip my road bike around corners at 50mph but I'm not wild enough to race on dirt. Brumble was very fun for the record, and hope it comes back.
Now, at Mystic I'll be in the 4s (early AM) all serious and 3/4s (1:30p) with no real shot - so I'd be happy to find some purpose helping someone out. Or are y'all going to save it for the 123?

On the fence for Ninigret 2: Electric Critaloo. I'll probably want a break after Rasputitsa, but if this rest week leads into good form on the dirt climbs it might be hard to resist taking a run at the 3/4 race Sunday.

I might go to Johnny Cake. It's definitely too much too soon, but it's close, will be social, and I really want to race my bike. Mystic Velo is possible but that's 6 hours of driving r/t.
