I could reread that all day and have no idea what all those words mean together.

the resistance increase, if it's as close to the roller as pictured there, is significant. instead of running out of gears at 250w I can do 300w and sit in the middle of the rear cassette on a 50t front.
the e-motions I had back in the day had a magnet mounted next to the roller like
you could glue a magnet to a stick and zip tie it to the frame right next to the roller and try that, too. I've wanted to try that for a little better control of the resistance, but am just generally very lazy and the setup I have works for what I use the rollers for (warmups, recovery, and occasional tempo)

oh, the wood is just a piece of scrap I had in the garage. it's grooved because it was part of an easel, but when I zip tied it to the roller frame it put the magnet at the right angle. you could do the same with just notching a square board at the ends.

If it's the rollers, then maybe that creates more tire wear? Because gsteinb hates tire wear from trainers!

I didn't say that. I said tires wear on trainers. And that I hate trainers.
I prefer rollers. I prefer rollers that actually function in a way that serve my needs. And that allow me to get off and race without changing wheels, or pumping my tires. Not sure why that's an issue. Shrug. It's not like they don't exist. I had an appropriate set for race warmups for 23 years. Regrettably they broke.

Had a little reprieve in the whole fiscal health thing. Working for someone means virtually 100% profit, promoting my own gig means full risk (and, at least for the last few years, massive losses). Another gig this weekend, White Plains Crit. It'll be interesting as the Missus will be joining me - she'll work registration (she ran Bethel's registration for a few years), I'll do the camera. Most everything is set, need to do the BikeReg download and do some final trailer stuff (set up printer, monitor, all wires/cables for same, load finish line camera bin, load radio bin, minor things like that).
We're driving down Sat, returning Sun, and Junior will have his first "without either of his parents" night in his whole life. When I worked the Pie Ride last weekend it took him 2 days to get over the fact that I wasn't there one night. He was super cute/sweet about the whole thing because we'd never seen him mope or be so clingy. Now for another night, this time on his own.
After we get back I have two days and then I start work. No idea how that will go but it's been interesting getting ready for it. Suit and tie dress code so I had to get a couple suits since I only had one suit for interviews/weddings/funerals. It didn't help that I bought that suit when I was about 30 lbs heavier. I look like a kid playing dress up when I wear it. The Missus and Junior will be away for the first almost-two-weeks of my job so I'll be able to focus 100% on work for that time. And maybe ride a bit as well.

So I received a hand written letter post marked from Australia. Last time I was there was approximately 18 years and 9 months. Scary moment opening it, then I remember I ordered something from there, phew!

Our man in Tulsa has reported he was caught behind a crash on the bell lap and DNF'd. I should expect he will make flyover country pay dearly for this tomorrow.

Yeah, was sitting about 15th wheel coming into the bell and feeling pretty good about things. The guys in front of me tangled, I had to lock them up and put a foot down and that was it. Blah.
Nice to meet you Wylde06. funny that you were standing right next to my dad and kids in that sea of spectators.

Day 2 Tulsa Tough, 5th wheel at the bell and feeling very good, had a plan for the finale. Suddenly some bizarre mechanical, tons of resistance. Thought it was a flat, nope, pulled a wheel, nope, brakes, nope. Pulled off the course and it was fine. No earthly idea what happened. Literally as we were passing under the finish banner at the bell.
I was feeling really, really confident at the bell. But I've now raced all but the last lap of the first two days of Tulsa, and 3 DNFs in a row. Either I'm cursed or I need to see a shrink.

i have that every race. usually it's my legs. ;-) more a bio-mechnical, i guess.
j/k
sorry to hear that happened. a bit fresher for tomorrow?
if hunter east goes tomorrow, follow him. i'll bet you some carbon fiber he's on the podium. i know some folks tell you "watch my <insert friend's name>, he is really good and has been training for this event." this is not one of those cases. i rarely, if ever, say this.

Yeah, I raced with him at Battenkill. I think he podiumed. I'll take your bet as a friendly wager though, because there are some really top dog guys in the race.
Yesterday was just bad luck but whatever happened today has me worried. It wasn't just like "gosh it's hard to keep up", we had just come off a fast descent and when I started pedaling again there was just a ton of resistance, as if the bike was in the trainer. I was certain it was a flat, but like I said, when I pulled off the course it was fine.
So, either there's some mysterious mechanical (bearings? no idea) that could continue to crop up, which is bad, or there was some temporary issue like something getting caught under the brake bridge (but without leaving a mark on the tire), which seems incredibly unlikely, or the guy behind me was crossed with my rear wheel somehow without me noticing, which also seems incredibly unlikely, or it was in my head, which of course seems impossible to me, but how would I know? So that would be very worrisome. It's so bizarre to race all but the last lap, two days in a row.
There's nothing for it but to try to race hard tomorrow and salvage something from the weekend, but wow this is really deeply frustrating.

Is it just me?
My in-laws are staying with us at the moment, and, at lunch, my father-in-law asked his favorite question (because he seems to think it's deep, so he asks it all the freaking time), "If you could talk with anyone alive or dead for half an hour, who would it be?"
I just don't get it. Everyone was listing someone that they admired, which is fine, but it does not appeal to me in the slightest. When I was in student government at college, I worked security for a number of concerts that we sponsored and, as I set up the tables afterward for the meet and greet, I was always offered the chance to be first in line to meet the singers and I always turned it down. I don't see the appeal in getting autographs, and this doesn't seem that much different. Plus, I dislike talking with people I don't know (a bit of Asperger's in my, I think - though I am too old and grew up in the boonie's where that was never discussed - and is the reason I switched to cutting my own hair).
So what's the appeal of meeting a famous person? You have to make small talk (something I absolutely hate), and may have nothing in common - there's a good chance they're not a good conversationalist either. Unfortunately, my answer of empty air so that I could have a nice quiet half our to rest without interruptions didn't go over well, so I ended up going with Andrew Wakefield so that I could punch him in his stupid, smug face.
When I was in college interviewing for graduate/professional schools, my stock answer of my sister because she lived 12 hours away and I didn't get to see her as often as I liked didn't go over well either, but I just don't see the point of meeting famous people. Is it just me?

Hairstylists are the worst... I almost left mid cut once after the psycho kept asking me questions about ghosts and witchcraft. Kept thinking "how do I tell this voodoo witch with scissors that she is an idiot and needs to shut up."
