I might buy my lunch 1 or 2 times a month. I have one of those insulated lunch box/cooler things that I pack my lunch in everyday. Been doing this for almost 11 years now. Eating out gets too expensive plus when I pack I know exactly what/how much im eating when it comes to calories and all that

Caffeine for those of us that can't do coffee. That's about it.

Coke? Coke Zero? I love the taste of both. Zero saves the calories. It's not a lot of caffeine. After a hard ride or race it's the first thing I want.

Sometimes on a long, hot climbing ride I get nausea and if I can get a Coke it helps a lot.

soda is gross. It amazes me the american public has been manipulated into making it part of its regular diet. It's a wonder of marketing.

I dunno, coke is mostly water, sugar, caffeine, and salt. As a habitual drink for a sedentary person, bad, but immediately before, during or after a hard ride or race, it seems appropriate.

And I would argue, not so much a wonder of marketing as a way to hit the brain's reward circuits. Fast calories and salt with some caffeine will give most people a quick boost. The lizard brain wants all the calories and salt it can get, the faster the better.

I used to have at least one coke a day but stopped drinking it back in the fall. I had a couple of sips of one a few days ago and it was overwhelmingly sweet.

We have a free soda/seltzer machine at work. Meh
Free coffee too, but it's undrinkable. So tea or I make my own single cups of coffee.

Politics doesn't have much of an influence on what I put into my body.

marketing is politics? while there might be some politics involved in marketing, they're not really equal. and sure, you're the guy who's immune from marketing influence.

I like Coke zero too.

I know a lady in her early 60's who never drinks plain water. She primarily drinks Coke Zero with the rare glass of tea or chocolate milk. Up until 5 years ago or so she drank regular coke and has been doing this for as long as I've known her (~20 years). She is registered nurse who did public health counseling for decades.

I'm not sure what that is supposed to mean. There are plenty of doctors and nurses who smoke. That doesn't suddenly make it healthy. We have a diabetes epidemic in this country. Studies also indicate that there are a host of issues with using artificial sweetners that revolve around tricking the body.

It means nothing. I just find it fascinating that someone could be that adverse to drinking water and that you can actually get away without drinking it.

I don't like putting artificial sweeteners in my body, and only consume high glycemic drinks when it's warranted (low blood sugar after a workout), or when I want a treat, which isn't so often.

I've had one of those for a long time. I pretty much live on seltzer.

This was about 2/3 of the way through my Saturday ride. I never drink soda any other time than during/after a hot ride and I try to find the Mexican coke that doesn't have HFCS. That sugar and caffeine got me home in 95 degree heat! I even put some of it in one of my bottles with ice. I probably gave myself a cavity but it was oh so good!

I like Coke Zero and Diet Coke after a workout.

People do a lot to their bodies that genetically, for some, may not be very good. That includes training for racing and racing i.e. generation of too much oxidation byproducts and food consumption (even healthy). Of course, that leads to everything in moderation that IMO, is the anti-theism of this site.
