Downhill trail running racing sounds like the express train to injury town. I wonder if Strava has yet to ban downhill running KoMs.

My town being what it is we've had a "professional" spartan racer kicking about for the past 2 years or so, singing its praises as if it were a crossfit branded kale smoothie. In general it's kind of fun to hear him brag about his insane 5 hour workout days where he hikes for 2 hours, swims across a reservoir, bikes to the gym, pumps iron, and only eats 1 gel because it trains the body better or something like that. He's got a full social media spread, videos posted on Facebook, a following of eager self-described bad asses about town that take to that sort of bravado, etc.
Because he considers me an athlete roughly on his level he likes to let me know what's going on with his racing career, give training advice, tell me about his sponsorship deals, ask about supplements, and try to encourage me to transition into spartan racing, because endurance athletes tend to be good at it. Today his bombshell was that due to some sort of fighting with the Spartan company he has decided he's done with Spartan racing and instead is going to create and promote a new sport consisting of downhill trail running, because he's really, really good at it. "Think downhill bike racing, but without the bike!" And then he took the lime from my burrito and ate it.

Is this the same guy that did IM Kona last year on "no training"? If so, he actually makes a decent living at the whole Spartan thing which makes me feel kind of sad inside.

I have run down mountains out of necessity. I'm not sure why one would choose to do that as a sport though.

Nosir to both. He was uh, kind enough to place the rind back in the burrito's container.

As there is not thread for this - I'm sure I'll repost later - what would NOT DQ a rider in the USA I found today will in Germany. I was told by the race director (Tom Mahoney, Track NCs) that the German's use the French version of the UCI rule book - and they are different.
Oh.
Frankly I was shocked the German's would use the French over the English version.

Specifically it is the morphological exemption is allowed only if you are 1.9m/6"3" in the French, and one is allowed to everyone in English. That is 5cm in saddle position, or significant bar position.

I'm like 6'2.75" with 6'9" arms. I would be so ****ed with the french version if they were sticklers.

I really don't the regulations are actually different in French vs English, they changed that too long ago for them not to have reconciled the two by now. I'd believe an official who isn't up to date on the rules, or miscommunication on weather the saddle was further than five cm behind the bb while the aerobars were also using that exemption, or a number of other things though.

Day 2 of pulling up some 798 sq ft of glued parquet floor. Really no fun at all, but was able to sneak in an hour ride before hand.
