Good day today. 30 mile loop through the local hills with some friends, some I haven't seen in months. We were taking a break and a guy rolled up with one leg. I'm always amazed by this, and he rode back down just behind us, so I got to watch him stop and start, (smoother than some two-legged cyclists.)
Anyway, I got to pig out at my niece's house and she sent me home with leftovers.

Ugh. We hosted friends for Thanksgiving and my wife made the best food. I ate more than I have in several years and more than I have on any thanksgiving. Homemade cranberry sauce, brussel sprouts, sweet potatoes, mashed potatoes, stuffing, turkey legs, store bought pie. Also had several beers, a wine, a couple bourbon spiked spiced ciders, and a couple bourbon and rum homemade eggnogs and the food just soaked it all up like nobody's business. My stomach is exploding.

I raced Mt. Hamilton, was toyed with by Eric Wohlberg for 72 minutes and then went home to a full house. Eight adults, 2 young children, my two infants, and our two dogs in our ~600sqft living and dining room.

Daniel back for 5 days, family did the Thanksgiving morning ride through Camp Pendleton. Daniel first road through the base at age 5 and I wanted to get a picture of him using his military ID on this base for the 1st time. I TT'd ahead of the group and up the hill so I could get that picture. I have not ridden so hard in 20 years. Loaded up me legs and fried myself. Anyway...
I was fast enough to get off the bike at the gate, get setup and asked the guards if I could take a picture. So they posed for me. Rather than tell them - "not of you" - I took the picture of them. Nice kids - big gun. Daniel showed his USAFA ID and then the guards asked the rest (30 or so) of the riders if they were with him [Daniel] - and waved them through.

I was forced into having to shop on Black Friday. At Target, the line to checkout was about 45 minutes long. The most intriguing thing was guy in front of me who only had a gallon of milk and 5 wash clothes. The whole time I was wondering what rationale he came to that choosing to buy milk at Target on Black Friday was his best option. The guy must hate his life at home.

That guy was pulling the ultimate antijoke. I'd like to think he was laughing at the insanity around him.

I went through pendleton a few years ago with no id. I was like "I'm with them, forgot my ID and I'm white."
Good enough.

As for military bases, I used to live in Augusta, Ga, home to Fort Gordon. I frequently went on base to hang out with friends or play golf at their course. Drivers license was all I needed. I'll add this was not long after Sept. 11 and that base is home to a major NSA operation as well as provides support for the Savannah River Site, where they used to make nuclear weapons.

Anyone wear an Apple Watch? I'm "test driving " one this weekend, but so far I'm not that impressed. Other than being able to see texts on my wrist, I don't know how useful it is. What am I missing?
**** that

It measures heart rate so has a decent gauge of your caloric usage throughout the day. Even though I wear an HR strap when riding, I like to use the watch for jogging or other workouts - it'll track mileage/calories/avg heart rate, even without a phone.
The new one ("series 2") has GPS built in, wish mine had that.. also wish mine had better battery life - if I use it to record an "outdoor bike ride" or hike, the battery runs out in about 4-5 hours, which is pretty lame. I'm sure the new one is better in that regard.
As for weather, this is one of my fave features - I really love seeing "drizzle in 10 minutes" at a glance on my wrist, using the "Dark Sky" app - it has a watch portion that can be configured to show on the main clock screen, without needing to swipe or launch anything. Other apps can show whatever at a glance as well.
If they could just make the battery life better, and the watch itself it smaller, I'd be 100% in. The watch body is a bit chunky for my tastes, compared to a regular watch. But I wear it anyway.
Full disclosure: I work at Apple, but not on the watch team; I got mine half-price, so that definitely helps me like it.

I bought a fancy leather watchband off etsy to make it nicer.

The one greatest thing about the apple watch is the ability to ping your phone when you can't find it. My wife uses it daily.

I used it on one of my first videos. My sister, who is the most classically trained of all of us, thought it was hilarious.

You're apparently not riding your bike, and your body and mind are trying to compensate.

not sure which location you went to, but the one in the 11th has 2 doors -- it is two very tiny storefronts as one. one door leads to the area where they do prep, the other to the display counter. when my wife was in there making a 2nd purchase, i noticed the 2nd door was open. i seriously considered sneaking in and grabbing some raw dough.
if you got a box on the way to the airport, i could have an overnight shipping label ready...and some extra cash for you. ;-)
