ha. I don't think it's really a contest amongst us. A few things about mine that are of interest…no peak or effort to peak. Fairly consistent results, but clearly an ability to bring home the win once the rest of the riders found form. A few of those could have been wins, or results. I got taken out at somerville where I would have been on the podium but ended up 30th after a guy came into me during the sprint. I got crashed out at Exeter which would have been a 3-5th (2 away). There's a 4th where I should have 1 but I totally botched the sprint and went 500 out. This sport doesn't allow for many mistakes.

I was top-5 about 5x, with one victory.
Didn't keep records.

Blocked in peloton often for teammates in break.
Form was never great this year, but started ~ 30x? so far, with a few more to come in Oct prob.

Steady mix of P12, 35's and local training crits.

Next year is a new age group (50+).
Wonder if that will help with inconsistent motivation?

My season pretty much sucked and putting my placings down would make it seem even worse.

Results don't get much better or more consistent than this, so it's also notable that (1) you are obviously at the top of your game and (2) this is very rare, by definition, because there's only so much room on the podium.

consistency with training and racing outweighs everything in the long run

my best seasons were steady and solid; start to finish

i didnt necessarily keep track but had several "caught behind early crash", "flat tire", etc. Results are from P123 or 35+:

March
48, 46

April
21, 26

May
2, 15, 7

June
crash, bruised ribs, went on vacation

July
43, 12

Aug
6, 20, 4

Sept
1

I also did the no peak plan with good consistent training in winter/spring, then race and recover throughout the year. I honestly thought I was better in May than any other time but had significant allergy issues this year that restricted my breathing; then my ribs found the pavement in June to the tune of some good bruising, which lead into family vaca time. Struggled in July with the climby part of our calendar, then in Aug came together well.

If I count field sprints only (meaning how I did in field sprints and not including breaks) it looks pretty good:
March: 29, 1, 4, 1
April: 1, 1, 9
June: 1, 5, 14
July: 1, 13
Aug: 1 (training race), DNF, DNF, DNF
I'm not counting the other training races as I either got shelled, sat up on purpose, or tried to lead out others. The training race where I won my main competitive were other Cat 3s.

The reality:
Mar: 29, 12, 4, 7
Apr: 9, 15, 9
June: 7, 5, 14
July: 15, 13
Aug: 1 (training race), DNF, DNF, DNF

I just realized I had top-10 finishes in my last two races of the season.

March: RR:4 Crit/circuit races: 31,21,25,29,31,31

April: RR: 20

May:RR: 31,4,11

June: Crit: 16,22,17

July: RR: 8,13 Crit:8,18,10,6,39,21,26

August: RR:35,DNF, Crit: 22,29,7

Good season. Lots of experience. Had a newborn. Learned a ton. Results by themselves seem poor but a lot of the crit races i didn't sprint or contest the finish if I knew I wasn't going to podium so those results are largerly skewed. That and several I was OTF for several laps before getting swallowed. Found some strengths and weaknesses and regained confidence in cornering after breaking my hip last season.

Texas state RR champs is 21-22 Sept so we are not done yet. A cup points stage race this weekend at Texarkana, and a road race at Clifton, TX then the RR at the famous Fort Hood course.

One win in a 3/4 crit, a podium in a masters SR, a few other podiums, placings and strong showings. It was a good year.

Did not get the RR win that I wanted (yet) but that was a stretch goal anyway. Right now my form is way off peak and I'm not in the mood for any kind of tough training so what I have now is what I'll finish with.

I tend to race anything I have a bicycle for. Most of these are road, crits, or TT's. One MTB race in here though.

Feb - (1-DNP)

Mar - 3, 3, 6, 8, (3-DNP)

Apr - 1, 1, 2, 2, 17, 18

May - 4, 18, 26, 30

Jun - 2, 5, 11, 22, 33, 40, 52

Jul - 7, 12, 16, 19, 26

Aug - 5, 13, 15, 26, 30

CX season starts this coming weekend for me. I'll be able to add a dozen more races to this years results hopefully.

First season of racing, fairly unimpressive but there are a lot more losers than winners in this sport. Don't get me wrong, I consider the season a success, my point is 20-80 are racing and only 3 get on the podium. For me, just getting out there, catting up, and not crashing are pretty good for a first year racer.

Feb: 60, 49
March: DNS due to injury
Apr: 33
May:3
June:DNF, 34
July: 32,15
Aug: 8, 43, 22

You can't really see it in the results but I got better as the season progressed. We really didn't do any peaking, but worked on short term power. It helped a ton, just to be able to quickly close gaps. That and being more efficient really helped to stay on wheels. My endurance was off most of the season, but my sciatica / leg just couldn't handle any volume.

Still one or two more races in the season, but so far:

Jan: 5, 2, 15

Feb: DNP via crash and injured for a few weeks

March (race back into "shape"): 28, 37, 28, 40, 15, 19, 13

April: 29, 13, 2

May: 18, 4, 2, 7, 1, 19, 23, 18, DNP

June: 43

July: 16, 14, DNP

August: 29 (w/crash), 12, 12

Some glimmers of good racing with a season of lackluster pack finishes. Upgraded to Cat 3 about halfway into the season (mid May) and had some good fun racing.

Jan: 2
Feb: DNF, 14, 17, 1, 19, DNF, 30
March: 5, 20, 1, 50, 6, 5, 80, 19, 13
April: DFL, 3, 16, 17
May: DNF, 49, 5, 20, 6, 8, 2, 11, 8, 3
June: 10, 1, 17, 12, 5
July: CRASHED THE F OUT/SEASON OVER

That's not counting training races, that went a lot better in general. (1, DFL, 2, 2, 3, 1, 2, 3, 3, 1, 8)

Only about 35 USAC races this year, pretty damn weak.

But I did lock in my last upgrade, cat 1. So the season went pretty well considering.

Generally no more than 3 hours or so. Most are around 1 hour away. I will make exceptions next year to travel a bit further for national level races. We have a few within 5 hours of driving and would make for some great experiences. I have a son (9) that races and would love to see him in some of the junior events at these big races.

5hrs +- depending on how many races I can do. I won't travel 5hrs for one crit race but if I can get three/four races in that weekend than 5hrs it is

result wise this season was...laughable, at best. took January off the bike travelling then got too aggressive with my training, injured myself, and it was all downhill from there. raced a little bit, but never really got the ball rolling and no results to speak of. that being said, on a personal level it was a positive year, overall. went through some depression throughout the winter/spring which was a really bad time for me. thankfully i was able to pull out if it, reevaluate my priorities in life, how bike riding/racing fits into that, and what I really want out of this sport at the end of the day. definitely still planning to race next year and am looking forward to putting in the work and hopefully getting some results out of it.

2 hours on average, 6-ish hours to San Dimas (more b/c we took detours on the way down), and driving to Bend is about 8 or 9 straight through. Max is about 3 hours for one-day races, 8-10 for stage races. Thinking about flying around a bit next year to do ToAD, and Tulsa, maybe some other NRC races.

Ain't nobody gonna get far in this sport without puttin' in the time/$$/gas it takes to race a lot!
