I suck at road races. Especially when there are hills...at least compared to where I live. Im done with road races for the year, because the 2 this weekend only prove why I don't do them to begin with.

Same, but I'm stubborn I'm skipping the next road race in an omnium because it's *before* the crit. If it were after, I'd do it and suffer, since it's a long uphill finish. But I'll do road races, especially the ones that come *after* the crit.

There was finally another Wells Ave race yesterday. I did most of the A race, had to drop out with 11 to go because I had, like an idiot, agreed to cover a friend's shift at the bike shop and didn't want to have to TT there. I was pretty close to done anyway. One day I will be fast again. But it was not that day.

Great job aaronmcd, that's got to be satisfying.
Can I just say again how bizarre it looks to have random guys standing on the ground next to the podium? If you're going to call 4th and 5th place "podium", why not make podiums with 5 steps? Or just make a giant ziggurat and let everybody stand on it?

Thanks for that. Next time I'll find you.
I thought I had posted Daniel was sick, caught @hack ' cold and didn't go. Big bummer canceled weekend, rain in Tahoe and nothing went as planned - except that race. Had Daniel been there - that race would have likely ended the same. I had hopped the RR different.
BTW - that doggy dude was Roy Knickman, Olympian, Olympic coach and 7-11 pro that also road for Hinault.

I was going - before sickness - as something. I don't do any coaching. I do give my opinion when asked on course, competition and technical stuff as I am normally up on that.

I would have been in the break, as I would have marked Daniel so hard...
My Modesto RR was OK.
Basically raced like a big fat crit racer. Covered some moves, let teammates cover others. When teammates are up, do the most to make their move successful. Got a good rider of ours into a break, then basically marked the "rival" team that I don't like, making sure they weren't getting across without towing me, too.
Unfortunately was a little too passive and a decent chase with 4 or 5 did make it to the break of 6, without me. That sucked.
Last 10 minutes initiated a little break with one other out of the pack, finished otf of the pack, behind the break. Guy with me was a cat 3 that I know from riding locally. Was happy to get him out front and he was 2nd in the cat3 race, behind Aaron, but I did crush him in the final 500m. That was 10 minutes of feeling like I was racing after about 2 hours of just pack management and listening to @mattm tell me to let other people ride away!

Edit: I'm not sure it would have been Daniel's job to be in the break.

My mini-report from that race was that my legs were flat. Bridged to an early move but bowed out after skipping pulls and not really helping my team mate who was already there.
Then yelled at Chris to rest, but yeah we did miss that bridge that made it. Next time maybe we should go with all those attacks, but half the time the rest of the field would go to etc.
I got 5th or so in the field sprint, was counted as DNF, but by the time the results were posted I was just ready to eat so didn't contest it.

SJBC twilight training crit tonight - took the win solo otf.
Attacked with 2 laps (2 mi each lap) to go, held it to my surprise.
Finished about 30 seconds in front of the field, legs done.
A small victory, but I'll take it!

Better still, you showed a different way to win. Do that again and your threat level will go up exponentially.

Folsom Classic Crit - E5 - 18/29
There were only 5-6 of us that spent any time on the front. Everyone else was content to let the speed drop into the teens when we wouldn't pull. I spent time on the front working for a teammate who was sitting in until the last couple laps. With 1 to go I was in 3rd or 4th wheel and he came up on my left side and told me to go. I gave it everything I had for a 45 second lead out and delivered him to the last corner in 1st wheel with about 250m to the line. He got passed in the sprint and took second. I coasted in for 18th.
It was a successful race and my last as a 5.

KSR stage 1, crashed with 500m, otherwise entirely uneventful and easy. Was drifting back thru the pack so I wouldn't have to deal with the sketchiness and a bunch of dudes went down in front of me and fanned out just far enough that I couldn't get around it. I got my revenge though, the ****ers broke my fall. Very minor road rash, pretty sure I broke a finger but I can still shift. Cleaning other people's blood off the bike and getting ready for tomorrow.

KSR stage 1 cat 3. I had a good leadout, 3rd wheel coming into 500m. Guy in front of me went left too early, I stupidly went right too early. I towed the field behind me and they went around me with 200m to go. Pretty disapointed. I worked entirely too hard to chase a break in the 3rd lap and spent way too much energy verbally trying to get others to rotate through to chase.
I need some serious lessons in patience, anyone care to humor me?

I'm 343. Glad you're ok. Things got super sketchy at the end, as Is probably to be expected. With my stretch of luck lately I should be incredibly happy I survived that. Some phenom has almost a minute on everyone right now, haha.

I know the guy and he was on my radar as a dark horse, I was surprised he was allowed to ride away like that but I was too busy watching a couple of others that I'd expect will be on the GC podium.
See you in the AM.
