That's good to hear.

Now you need a new front wheel, too.

Watsonville Crit - technical crit course with wind and (thankfully) a hill. Used the hill to move up, attacked from lap 3. Kept attacking. Eventually it was down to 7-8 guys.Confusing as we were lapping people a lot.

Giles went and got a big gap with a Mike's rider on his wheel. Thought I was racing for 3rd and attacked the chase with 5-6 to go. Eventually caught Giles as the Mike's guy had cracked. Break of 5-6 came together with 2 to go. Attacked again, got clear with 1 mikes guy on my wheel. Each corner the gap was never more then 5s for the 1.5 or 2 laps I was on the front. I see Mike's guys in the chase, but now lapped riders are working in there too. Uncertain, but the guy on my wheel refused to pull through and I didn't want to take 5th. He got me at the line, but it was respectably close, especially given the leadout I gave him.

Was 2-3 seconds clear of the chase. Harrowing and super fun. My inability to corner is greatly overestimated. Glad to get one back on Scott after he got me in the last race in which I faced him.

Capital Region. 3 laps of 20 miles.

Lap 1: Feelsgoodman
Lap 2: No worries in the world
Lap 3: Within the span of like 15 minutes: Yep, still good, let's attack. Wow, this feels way harder than it should. Why am I having trouble standing up? Why does z2 feel impossible? Why would Marisa Tomei agree to be Aunt May? She's like, way better than that. They must be offering her a lot of money. That grass looks tasty. I wish I had more water.

OTB. It happens.

Super rad.

I came really really close to crashing on the 120-degree turn; came out wide, rims scraping on the outside curb... ah good times.

Glad to see you did better than me!!

Did you get any of those strawberries? Totally worth it.

Watsonville E3, same course as Fudgy. I really like that course.

Start, take off with another guy, reeled in a few laps later. Many others attack, a break goes but stays close. Im trying to recover and having a tough time, experimenting to find the easiest way to do it. Find out the inside line through the short turns put me out without having to go too hard. Focus on staying GLUED to a wheel in the headwind, and make sure to stay right on the short climb for wind shelter. By 25 minutes in the field was shattered. Suddenly everyone got tired and it came together by 30 minutes. Recovered a bit, 8 to go, lull at the top of the climb so I take off. Hurting though, and I only last a couple laps, no one came to help. Got a poor position at the bell and one strong sandbagger led out the whole lap for kicks and no one could move up. Finished 10th ish in a small field. Oh well, had lots of fun!

Congrats Fudgy on 2nd!

hahaha, vivid report. Sorry man. I was in the same field and good lord, those hills were configured so...interestingly. I'm getting better at mind tricks to put out on stuff like that. After all the physical and mental work I did to get EXACTLY where I needed to be in the final 1K (to take 2nd because the usual suspect took off on his own on the beginning of the third lap for the win), I was drilling it and got a gnarly cramp in my inner quad like I'd never had before. I don't know how much more serious damage can be done by pressing through that, but it got my brain to just shut me down. After going that far, to essentially give up with 300m to go is disgusting and nauseating. I really need to figure this cramp stuff out, because I've consistently had minor ones throughout the season during finishes. I think its a combination of needing more consistent stretching and to stop making poor choices like gels+carb drink mix.

That was a hard one. Thank god for a crit today.

Of the four really strong guys I know in your field, one was you, one was my teammate who finished even more OTB, one blew up and DNF, and one did OK. I've done that race twice and was OTB both times. The course is just one big punch in the face. Get em next time.

Dude I have no idea, it was some ungodly mixture of cramp and bonk and I didn't see it coming at all. I thought I had drank and ate enough, attacked and noticed something was not right, was able to stick with the counters, and then my legs completely locked up on the very last climb of the hilly sector. I got like 3/4 of the way up it with the leaders and then they wouldn't work AT ALL and I very nearly tipped over haha. Then when I tried to chase back on putting out more than low z2 was impossible so I rolled it in "easy" and it still felt soooo bad. It took me until around 8pm to feel normal again. There's like nothing I can even get upset about, just a funny day.

I looked over the little switchback and saw that happening to you and, honestly, that helped me get over the rest..I was like "FOR ERIIIKKK!"

Thanks for the details. I feel bad for you. I wonder if it was some kind of salt imbalance or something similar. Live on to race another day.

fwiw I felt so bad on my tuesday ride this week. It was inexplicable. I was attributing it to starting a small daily dose of creatine, but whatever it was my legs just felt like balloon-animal balloons. I could make OK power, but it felt terrible and OK power was like 20% off what I should have made for the PE I was feeling. I still don't know what it was, but I drank probably 2x my normal amount of water over the next few days and felt better yesterday, obv.
