It's addictive and I really didn't expect that.
There's a book called
Positive Addiction, by William Glasser (copyright 1976) that's really good. Chances are your library has it. I have a copy but who knows where it is in this chaos I call home....
The author, a psychologist, praises activities such as music, writing, various forms of exercise (which would include commuting!) etc. that energize and vitalize life by their addictive nature.
When I was commuting I generally felt addicted to it, too. Sometimes a really rotten incident would temporarily spoil the addiction, but it was possible to get back into the groove.
My main positive addiction now is journal writing. Maybe cycling will appeal to me again someday.... I'm always glad to hear when somebody does become addicted to it.
