I call bull***** on most of the "research" out there--- there is usually some sort of marketing attached to it.
I think you need to be careful about calling FUD on 'most' research. Maybe I'm biased because I work directly with researchers, but there's a lot of work done outside of bike companies. If you're going to refute published science, I think it should be done scientifically, on a case-by-case basis, by evaluating the study's merits on it's own... sample size, methodology, measurement, duration, etc.
