What do you see that I'm missing?

Unless I'm missing something, the new stuff routes the same as the old. All you need is the cable stops on the shifter braze-ons and you should be able to use the existing routes. Spreading the triangle will be necessary though, and you're right about the components. Figure at least $500 or so to build it with Veloce or Centaur, assuming you have some bits laying about - post, stem, bars, BB, etc.
