I don't use stock rings, I don't use 110bcd for road (its for wusses or for people who live around constant really steep hills) and I agree, 110 BCD and a 45t+ ring is not good. I use various different track/bmx rings from the LBS I work at and if I can find an ISIS 144bcd crank, I can throw on a Campy Nuovo Record (if that ever came in Pista, otherwise it is just Record pista) ring which was mysteriously laying there amidst a pile of NOS track stuff.
