I think of it in terms of ratios. 14/46 = X/60. How do you figure what X is? Doing that little cross-multiplication thingie from school, you get: 46X = 14 x 60, or 46X = 840. Divide both sides of the equation by 46, and you arrive at your answer. X = 18.26 mph. I'm a lawyer and I still remember this stuff!!
Now let's worry about important stats -- earned run average, on-base percentage, etc.
