Secondly, who the F*ck are you to tell anyone that one handlebar is better than the other? It's all personal preference. Saying that people put risers on bike cause everyone else does is just like saying that YOU ride a track bike on the street because everyone else does. My friend has been riding risers for the past 5 years, at a time when drops were the only thing you seen on the very few track bikes on the street, which is how I got put on the risers.
So why don't you explain something to me...Why are drops, flat bars, bullhorns, and everything else you mention better than riser bars?
Everyone please pay attention.
The correct height of bars will vary from person to person. The vast majority of bike hipsters I see have their bars way way too low. If you found having your hands by the stem the only position you used then you too had your bars to low. hands by stem is a ****ty place to hold any bar and the only reason you would spend so much of your time there was if the bars in general were too low. If you had your stem all the way up and this was the case then either you had the wrong stem or your frame didn't fit right.
Need I list the reasons why risers are ****? I kinda figured they were self explanatory.
First off they don't really offer any better visibility they just allow for better visibility with a stem which is inappropriate for the rider(like yours).
compared to flats:
the bend does nothing except allow you to use a different stem and decreases the weight/stiffness ratio.
this is pretty minor though which is why I don't HATE risers in place of flat bars.
Cut off compared to drops or horns:
-leverage is equivalent to drops or horns 5cm shorter.
-only one hand position.
-if not flipped and cut off the sweep is in the wrong direction.
-no aero position
-provides absolutely nothing that the other bars don't.
