Raleigh Cable Hanger

A while back, I thought I'd replace the rusty chrome stuff on the old Record. Bought a couple of alloy brake cable hangers for the centerpulls. The front one works okay, but the rear one attaches to the center of the seat clamp bolt, and the clamp doesn't have room for it. The old steel one attaches to either side of the clamp, but I haven't seen an alloy one like it. Should I just file out a place in the center of the clamp, and maybe thin down the hanger a little and try to get it to fit? Have I just not looked far enough for an alloy one like the old one? Should I just sand all the chrome and rust off the old one and paint it?
