Raleigh Cable Hanger

A while back, I thought I'd replace the rusty chrome stuff on the old Record. Bought a couple of alloy brake cable hangers for the centerpulls. The front one works okay, but the rear one attaches to the center of the seat clamp bolt, and the clamp doesn't have room for it. The old steel one attaches to either side of the clamp, but I haven't seen an alloy one like it. Should I just file out a place in the center of the clamp, and maybe thin down the hanger a little and try to get it to fit? Have I just not looked far enough for an alloy one like the old one? Should I just sand all the chrome and rust off the old one and paint it?

Nashbar sells a steel one for 2 bucks: https://www.nashbar.com/profile.cfm?c...All%20Products

I think steel is a good material for this use, given the rigidity you want at that point. The couple of ounces you'll save with alloy are inconsequential.

Mafac Hangers are stainless steel.

I've got a NOS Weinmann rear cable hanger that fastens to either side of the seat bolt. PM me if you are interested.

we're talking about a part that weighs maybe 20 grams in STEEL!
I think you mean grams.

Which I agree are inconsequential.

Thanks for the responses, folks. I'm not looking to save weight with the alloy, just avoid rust. Nashbar doesn't show a picture of theirs, but it sounds like its similar to what I have. Probably buy some tires from them before long, guess I'll just get one then. Thanks.

Heck, I wanted to express it in pounds, Dr. D! You didn't say I had to use whole numbers.
