The pair of Mondo's I got were the worse tire I ever had. I'm curious what you meant by one being "funky" because one of mine wore oddly. It's almost like the sidewalls had dry rot with small littel cracks all over them. The tread cit very easily and I had three flats in a couple months. I raely flat and look out for galss and debris.

The ride is okay (comparable to Mich Pro 2, Vred's, and Conti GP). The abolsute best tire I've found is the Conti GP 4000 S. Make sure it's the S - brand new and most of the big chains don't carry them yet.
