Have you thought about building her a bike from an old road bike? Could be cheaper and more fun.

That said, there's not that much that could go wrong on that bike. So, maybe the brakes suck, and it's probably pretty heavy (it's made of Hi-Ten). Get the wheels trued up to perfection and the brakes adjusted as best you can, you both should be good.

It's not like you've got a hub that could strip...
