Okay, probably much ado about nothing. After a conversation with Bob Lickton at lickbike.com, there's no issue with the DA chain. The pin size is industry standard - 0.141-0.1465"(?).

The problem seems to be with the design of the link. The head of the rivet is several thousandths larger than the rivet itself. It fits through the bushing of some chains, but apparently the DA chain has a bit closer tolerance and the head is very difficult to get through the bushing. Caliper shows me an "interference" fit of almost .005"! I hadn't wanted to force it, but once I pressed it in with the bench vice so that the head was clear of the bushing, it was fine.

Never mind!

Btw, since Lickton holds the patent on these, I thing I'll try switching to Superlink. QBP carries them.
