Quick link for a Dura-Ace chain?

Anyone using a quick-link on a DA 7701 chain?

I have a Wipperman Connex link that lived happily in an HG73 chain. I replaced the chain with a DA CN-7701. The link pin is too big to fit through the outer plates, the inner plates, or even the roller without forcing it. As far as I can tell Wipperman makes only one 9-speed link.

What do you use?

The pin that came with your chain was probably correct, you need to read the instructions or have someone demonstrate the first time. It can be tricky and it IS critical to install correctly. On the other hand, besides the link that Soil Sampler "linked" to, be aware that Wipperman makes a Shimano-specific Connex connector also.

Uh, what? The Shimano pin was fine. The problem is the Connex link. As for being "Shimano specific", both the HG73 and 7701 chains are by Shimano. Were you maybe thinking 10-speed?

At least the Forster link says it fits DA chains. They don't sell them, though. This guy does. I'll call him shortly.

The Jenson site has no data about the Superlink. And has none. Edit: I see it's the same link.

Have you used either of these links?

Okay, probably much ado about nothing. After a conversation with Bob Lickton at lickbike.com, there's no issue with the DA chain. The pin size is industry standard - 0.141-0.1465"(?).

The problem seems to be with the design of the link. The head of the rivet is several thousandths larger than the rivet itself. It fits through the bushing of some chains, but apparently the DA chain has a bit closer tolerance and the head is very difficult to get through the bushing. Caliper shows me an "interference" fit of almost .005"! I hadn't wanted to force it, but once I pressed it in with the bench vice so that the head was clear of the bushing, it was fine.

Never mind!

Btw, since Lickton holds the patent on these, I thing I'll try switching to Superlink. QBP carries them.

Getting it out is going to be an adventure, I bet.
