Second Canadian to suggest that. While I understand that Canadian laws are perhaps not quite the same as U.S. laws, I can hardly believe that assault and battery are not criminal or civil offenses there. Assault and battery using a weapon? Most likely a felony. Definitely a criminal and civil offense, weapon or not. It transforms the innocent cyclist into the guilty felon in the blink of an eye, and suddenly it's the cyclist who is being prosecuted, and the driver who is state's witness (and later, the driver who is collecting the damages from the cyclist.). Attacking the vehicle instead of the driver (probably what you're suggesting here)? Still a criminal and civil offense, still a potential felony.
assault and battery are offenses here in Canada, I never suggested hitting the driver, I said his windsheild would be just as good. I don't think that is assault or battery. I think it just standing up for your rights as a cyclist not to have to get killed whenever you are out riding. What about the idiot who tries to kill someone in a car? He/ She will probabaly get a slap on the wrist even if we do get his/her plate number.
