My commute home takes my by a large pond and there are always these aggressive geese that hang out near the path. Sometimes they sit in the middle and I have to stop for them. If I am on my mountain bike I just pull up into a wheelie and charge through, they always move though.
I hate the way geese hiss at you, I want to give one a mouth full of pepper spray one of these days.
I have had the same thing happen to me by a pond in Williamsburg, VA. They totally flip out and try to attack you. What you have to do (totally serious) is make them think that you are a much larger and meaner goose. Charge at them making loud goose noises (WAAK WAAK WAAK), and they'll get the idea and back off.
