I've had cantis that use threaded posts as well. The MTB pads are superior, both in design and adjustability (at least according to Sheldon Brown), but I've heard they wear more quickly. In my limited experience with both, I concur with Sheldon. The MTB model are much easier to adjust and I also think the wider contact surface and arched design makes it easier to eliminate squeals.
