Its cheaper to lace them yourself and then have the LBS tension the spokes.
Not that you are a moron, but any moron can lace a wheel...its easy with a good set of instructions (easily found on the internet) and requires no special tools. So if you are on a budget its an easy way to save some money.

i use straight gauge steel spokes. and i am quoting retail prices in my area. if you know how long of a spoke you need (do a google search for a spoke calculator), you can order them online and maybe get them cheaper. i use an odd hub/rim combo and dont have that option.
